Manufacturing Engineer - CNC Programming and Floor Support

Location: Tucson, AZ | Job ID: #72452 | Pay Range: $65-77 an hour | Contract: 6+ Month

Job Overview

The primary mission of this role is to provide essential Manufacturing Engineering support in a machining factory, focusing on maintaining product throughput through troubleshooting on CNC equipment (Lathe and Mill), updating engineering documentation, and meeting technical requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with machinists to improve machining efficiencies and provide training to meet hardware requirements.
  • Apply cutting tool technology, fixture design, machining, and CNC programming techniques to establish best practices and advise drafting engineering.
  • Create production‑level CNC programs and prove out 1st pieces on 3‑, 4‑, and 5‑axis mills and live‑tooling lathe.
  • Support training of production machinists to grow knowledge base.
  • Sustain standard machining techniques by developing documentation for machining programs using CAD/CAM systems.
  • Use lean manufacturing methods to enhance efficiencies and reduce costs.
  • Ensure processes yield products that meet cost and quality expectations with reliability and consistency.
  • Conduct research for equipment acquisition and develop ROI reports for justification.
  • Support new product introduction and development.
  • Generate tooling concepts and cycle‑time estimates for bidding purposes.
  • Act as a troubleshooter for assembly, machining, and manufacturing problems.
  • Resolve issues in collaboration with Application Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, Product and Process Suppliers, and customers.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, following safety and environmental procedures, and report incidents to supervisor.
  • Provide a high level of service to all internal and external customers and contribute to a positive teamwork environment.
Required Skill Sets
  • Degree in STEM or equivalent technical degree (BSME/BSIE) with minimum 5 years relevant experience (or advanced degree with 3 years).
  • High proficiency in CNC manufacturing using Mastercam CAD/CAM software.
  • Proficiency in 5‑axis programming and lathe programming with live tooling.
  • Ability to develop tool and fixture concepts related to CNC machining.
  • Manufacturing shop floor experience working closely with production operators/machinists.
  • Experience in writing programming and standard work instructions.
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement tools and methodologies.
  • Technical drawing interpretation with extensive GD&T knowledge.
  • Experience with standard inspection methods and part verification, including handheld measurement tools.
  • Ability to identify relevant design factors (ease of manufacturing, material availability, machine/tool capabilities) and communicate alternatives.
  • Demonstrated success in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • U.S. government security clearance eligibility.
  • U.S. citizenship.
Desired Skill Sets
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, ACE or CORE.
  • Experience with MRP/ERP/SAP systems.
  • Experience with design tools: CATIA V, SolidWorks, Creo, etc.
  • Microsoft 365 Suite proficiency.
  • Siemens NX experience.
  • High‑precision ID/OD grinding.
  • Experience with automated manufacturing cells.
  • Knowledge of military and industry standards and specifications.
Education Level Required

Degree in STEM or equivalent; minimum 5 years of relevant experience (or advanced degree with 3 years). Alternative educational path: 8–15 years of experience in lieu of degree.
