Job Description

As a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, General Assembly/DFM, you will be involved in the complete product and process lifecycle, end to end. You will take products from concept to large-scale manufacturing. You will closely work with design engineering to develop manufacturing equipment, conveyors, tools, and fixtures required for full production while considering DFM concepts.

You Will:

  1. Interface with design engineering to review product designs for manufacturing feasibility in general assembly.
  2. Provide detailed assessments and critical Design for Manufacture (DFM) reviews of product, process, and tooling designs.
  3. Take products from concept to design, prototype, and manufacturing.
  4. Translate high-level assembly goals & strategy into actionable design change requests.
  5. Develop and implement dimensional control strategies.
  6. Conduct virtual build events to review assembly processes and requirements.
  7. Develop process documentation and complete PFMEAs and Quality Control Plans.
  8. Implement Lean Manufacturing and error-proofing strategies, validate load paths, tool access, and ergonomics.
  9. Provide GA impact/cost studies for design changes or unique design directions, including make vs. buy studies.
  10. Assess in-house manufacturing capabilities and implement new processes or equipment to expand capabilities where justified.
  11. Implement and expand concepts like Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen to reduce costs and increase quality and throughput.
  12. Collaborate with all engineering levels in new idea development, review current documentation, and implement changes as needed.
  13. Provide leadership to cross-functional teams and manufacturing engineers regarding processes and capabilities.
  14. Work with design and quality teams on PFMEA creation and maintenance.
  15. Mentor and review the work of other manufacturing engineers to improve team skills.
  16. Communicate manufacturing decisions and fundamental reasons to the executive team when required.

You Bring:

  1. Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD Degree in Engineering.
  2. 5+ years of experience in developing and launching complex assembly processes.
  3. 5+ years of Tier 1 or OEM experience.
  4. Proficiency in creating manufacturing process documentation, both written and pictorial.
  5. Ability to work independently from prototype to sustaining activities.
  6. Capability to manage pressure, deadlines, and competing demands.
  7. Proactive, positive attitude, ownership, and accountability.
  8. Ability to influence outcomes and drive initiatives in complex environments.
  9. Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities.
  10. Strong analytical and abstract thinking skills.
  11. Creativity and innovation in process/technology improvements.
  12. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  13. Well-organized with attention to detail.
  14. Willingness to travel up to 40% (US and international).
  15. Mastery of Excel and PowerPoint; proficiency with CATIA, 3DX.
