Job description

Overview

Working across the globe, V2X builds smart solutions designed to integrate physical and digital infrastructure from base to battlefield. We bring 120 years of successful mission support to improve security, streamline logistics, and enhance readiness. Aligned around a shared purpose, our $3.9B company and 16,000 people work alongside our clients, here and abroad, to tackle their most complex challenges with integrity, respect, responsibility, and professionalism.

Overview

This position will provide direct support to assembly operations while also contributing to component-level fabrication. You will work hand-in-hand with design engineers and other cross-functional engineers, program leadership, and the production team to bring concepts to fruition in a very rapid pace and dynamic environment. We operate in a high-mix/low-volume model and field products so rapidly that change and growth are constant. As a grade -4 Manufacturing Engineer, you may be—at times—tasked to lead a small team of Manufacturing Engineers on projects for which we are the prime design-authority and other projects in which we are a sub-contracted organization. This mix brings a lot of variety to the scope of responsibilities for our manufacturing engineers and our Manufacturing Engineers, referred to internally as Production Support Engineers (PSEs), may be assigned to a projects lasting anywhere from six months to a few years before being re-assigned to new projects. Work environments will be a balance between office and production floor. Travel may occur on occasion (to customer or supplier sites) but are typically T<10%.

Responsibilities

You may be asked to support proposal development and New Product Introductions (NPIs). You may need to estimate required tasks and their associated takt times; tooling, area, work cell/workstation requirements; or support new process development. While supporting large programs, you may be assigned a small team of manufacturing engineers to which you will serve as the program’s lead Mfg Engineer and be responsible for delegating tasks and responsibilities—as well as reviewing products (e.g. Production Routings and supplemental work instructions, and PFMEAs) for quality and accuracy—and overseeing the development of junior manufacturing engineers. You and/or your team will be responsible for determining sequence of manufacturing operations required for production and develop or revise process work instructions, provide direct support to the production team during mechanical assembly operations, and design and develop tooling, fixturing, and support structures as needed to facilitate assembly operations. Additionally, you may help Assess process safety and integrate risk reduction measures—including PPE—into process design. Support assembly team when deviations or faults are discovered.

Qualifications

Required Skills :

  • 8-10 years of experience as an engineer in general industrial assembly manufacturing

  • 5+ Years in industrial machining operations or metal fabrication operations (including forming and welding operations)

  • Experience in technical writing and development of detailed work instructions for assembly and rework operations.

  • Experience using ERP platforms to generate production routings (SAP S/4HANA preferred)

  • Experience using 3D CAD programs (PTC Creo preferred) to create production drawings from model.

  • Fundamental familiarity with national industrial standards pertaining to engineering, materials, and industrial fabrication and assembly operations. Standards should include ASME, ASTM, SAE, and ISO standards—with special emphasis on ASME Y14-series standards (including Y14.5 GD&T) and experience reading and interpreting assembly drawings.

  • Experience Designing/Developing Tooling, Fixturing, Jigs, and support structures for assembly operations

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and math skills (linear algebra, trigonometry)

  • Must be a US Citizen with ability to pass a criminal background check (must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD secret clearance)

Desired Experience & Skills

  • 5-10 years of experience as an engineer in aerospace and/or defense manufacturing environment (experience in AS9100 aerospace manufacturing a plus)

  • 3-5+ Years of experience in implementing lean manufacturing principles, Continuous Improvement (CI) activities, developing Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEAs), and Root Cause & Corrective Actions (RCCAs)

  • Experience using PDM suites (Windchill preferred) to manage production process documents

  • Familiarity with Military standards and technical specifications such as MIL-STDs, MIL-PRFs, MIL-SPECs, FED-STDs, and service specifications such as USAF TOs and NAVAIR Instructions in regards to fabrication, material properties, and testing procedures and requirements
