Job summary

V2X is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design of new products and test hardware, and to improve existing solutions at our Indianapolis facility. You will work with an Integrated Product Team on hardware design, prototyping, and qualification testing across proposal, development, and production phases.

The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of mechanical design experience, proficiency with 3D CAD (CREO preferred), and familiarity with GD&T and data management systems.

Qualifications

  • Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance.
  • Onsite work at Indianapolis, Indiana facility with an Integrated Product Team.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience.
  • Experience in design, integration, or testing of mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Proficient with 3-D CAD tools (CREO preferred).
  • Knowledge of data management systems (Windchill preferred).
  • Familiar with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5).
  • Strong planning, organization, and adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Experience with trade studies.
  • Self-starter with quick learning and time management.
  • Strong teaming and communication skills.
  • Creative thinking and problem solving.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes (CNC, sheet metal, etc).
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related STEM.

Responsibilities

  • Design of new products and test hardware; improve existing products.
  • Utilize mechanical engineering expertise through proposal, concept generation, development, production, and qualification testing.
  • Design creative solutions that meet product requirements.
  • Proficient in 3D modeling and drafting; support production, integration, and testing.
  • Develop solutions using COTS with custom hardware.
  • Lead mechanical designs and mentor junior engineers; collaborate with systems, electrical, test, and production engineers.
  • Participate in design reviews at part, subsystem, and system levels (PDRs/CDRs/DFMAs).
  • Engage vendors, manufacturers, and SMEs for design decisions.
  • Communicate effectively in high-pressure DoD contexts; on-site work focused.

Responsibilities

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design of new products and test hardware, as well as the improvement of existing products. The engineer will utilize their mechanical engineering expertise during the proposal and concept generation phase, product development, production, and qualification testing phases of new product design. The engineer will have the opportunity to design creative solutions that meet product requirements. The engineer shall be proficient with 3D modeling and drafting, and will be hands‑on supporting production, integration, and testing. The engineer will develop solutions which leverage commercial off the shelf (COTS) products paired with custom hardware. The engineer must be a resourceful researcher engaging vendors, manufacturers, and SMEs regarding design decisions. The engineer will take part in design reviews at both part, subsystem and system level including Peer Reviews, DFMAs, PDRs, and CDRs. The engineer will provide leadership on mechanical designs and provide mentorship to junior engineers, as well as work closely with systems, electrical, test, and production engineers.

Qualifications
  • Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance
  • Ability to work onsite at our Indianapolis, Indiana facility with an Integrated Product Team being hands on with hardware
  • A minimum of 5 years professional work experience required
  • Experience in the design, integration, or testing of mechanical components and assemblies
  • Competent using 3‑D CAD Modeling Tools (CREO preferred)
  • Working knowledge of data management systems (Windchill preferred)
  • Proficient in application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5 standards)
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with ability to be adaptable to changing priorities and assignments
  • Performing trade studies
  • Must be a self‑starter, a quick learner, and be able to function in a dynamic environment, and have good time management skills
  • Must have strong teaming skills, and good communication skills
  • Demonstrated creative thinking and problem solving
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes including traditional CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, mechanical assemblies, water jet, laser, welding, EDM, additive manufacturing, etc.
