Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to support the production of autonomous systems within the Uncrewed Systems (UxS) group.

You will design manufacturing processes, drive improvements, and implement changes to enhance safety, quality and throughput. You will work in a cross-functional team addressing production issues, failure analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government clearance.
  • Bonus points for defense manufacturing, FRACAS, cross-functional production support, root cause analysis in manufacturing, process development, documentation, and change management.

  • Design manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
  • Develop, document, and implement manufacturing process updates to improve safety, quality, throughput, and cost.
  • Support production, sustaining and new product introduction efforts through manufacturing engineering analysis and implementation.
  • Respond to production issues and provide hands-on support to diagnose and resolve manufacturing problems.

HII Unmanned Systems is seeking an experienced professional to join our manufacturing engineering group! We are looking for an individual to support the production of our autonomous systems. As a manufacturing engineer, you will be responsible for supporting production operations, resolving manufacturing issues, and driving continuous improvement for new and existing products. Working in a cross functional team, the candidate will be responsible for responding to production issues, performing failure analysis and corrective actions, implementing design and process improvements, and supporting product delivery. Responsibilities may include the following:



  • Support production, sustaining, and new product introduction efforts through manufacturing engineering analysis and implementation.

  • Respond to production issues in a timely manner and provide hands-on support to diagnose and resolve manufacturing problems.

  • Perform failure analysis, root cause investigation, and corrective action implementation for product and process nonconformances.

  • Develop, document, and implement manufacturing process updates to improve safety, quality, throughput, and cost.

  • Recommend and support design improvements to enhance manufacturability, assembly efficiency, reliability, and producibility.

  • Communicate manufacturing issues, process changes, and improvement plans to the appropriate departments.

  • Provide documentation for manufacturing support, work instructions, process flows, and engineering changes.

  • Support the development and release of technical data packages, manufacturing methods, and production documentation for new and existing designs.

  • Drive configuration management philosophy in products and manufacturing processes.

  • Estimate production and cost impacts for manufacturing changes, process improvements, and design updates.


What you will be doing.

Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling. Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout. Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance. Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions. May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan. Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality. Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques. Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques. Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.

Physical Requirements
