Job description

Matthews International York, Pennsylvania plant is a high-end wood working plant mixing traditional manufacturing techniques with state-of-the-art automation to produce industry leading caskets. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for improving quality and production processes. This can be collaboratively in a team environment or individually. The incumbent will work with shop floor employees as well as other technical staff and management.

The expectations below are not meant to be all-inclusive but to highlight major areas of responsibility that are accomplished in this role, either personally, collaboratively or through a team.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Evaluate and implement improvements to manufacturing processes that promote quality, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Assists in designing and implementing fixturing/jigs to improve quality and productivity.
  • Optimizes facility layouts, production lines, and machine operations.
  • Collaborates with other engineers, contractors, and suppliers to resolve quality issues and delays in production.
  • Train staff in new and existing processes.
  • Resolves customer quality issues as needed. This may include direct customer contact and interaction with the sales team or others outside the plant environment.
  • Implements changes within the Quality Management System.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Set quality standards with the product management team as new products are introduced.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of quality standards, work instructions, quality records, and other related documentation.
  • Develop methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation of products.
  • Performs root cause analysis on product/process-related issues.
  • Utilize risk assessment tools (e.g., PFMEAs) to identify actions to reduce risks.
  • Improves production processes using Kaizen events, process mapping, 5s, or other lean tools.
  • Identify trends and process variations for future improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
  • Degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record of solving problems and implementing improvement.
  • Experience with woodworking machinery a plus.
  • High level of statistical knowledge and the ability to apply analysis techniques to product and process improvement projects.
  • Ability to break down complex situations and perform analysis of complex data and information to deliver effective solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Effective teaching and training skills.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite
