Job summary

A leading IT solutions provider is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer in Whitakers, North Carolina. This role involves evaluating manufacturing processes, providing solutions to production issues, and collaborating with engineering teams. A Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 2-4 years of automotive manufacturing experience is required. This is a contract position initially lasting six months, with potential for extension or full-time employment. Candidates should have a strong understanding of manufacturing fundamentals and relevant software applications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-4 years of automotive manufacturing experience.
  • More than 2 years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Determine manufacturing processes to achieve product specifications.
  • Identify problems with products and recommend solutions.
  • Improve efficiency in production planning.

Skills

Basic competence as defined by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers
Knowledge of Mathematics and Applied Science
Working knowledge of Manufacturing Fundamentals
Ability to read and interpret blueprints
Previous experience with CAD software

Education

Bachelor degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical and/or Industrial Engineering

Job Description

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Helps determine the manufacturing processes required to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specification
  • Works with engineering to identify problems with product and performance; may recommend solutions or enhancements
  • Assists with plans and designs methods to improve efficiency in production
  • Works to improve equipment availability and capability by utilizing continuous improvement tools and working cross‑functionally
  • Defines manufacturing standard working methods
  • Studies time, motion, methods, and speed involved in maintenance, production, and other operations to establish standard production rate and improve efficiency
  • Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards
  • Reads worker logs, product processing sheets, and specification sheets to verify that records adhere to quality assurance specifications
  • Aids in planning work assignments in accordance with worker performance, machine capacity, production schedules, and anticipated delays
  • Prepares charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, material handling, and machine utilization
Qualifications

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in engineering is required. Prefer a degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical and/or Industrial Engineering
  • Minimum 2‑4 years’ automotive manufacturing experience

Preferred Experience:

  • Transfer line experience would be very beneficial for this position

Responsibility Level:

  • Exercises moderate independent judgment with direction from supervisor

Required Skills:

  • Basic competence in the body of knowledge as defined by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers for a Certified Manufacturing Technologist (CMfgT)
  • Knowledge of relevant areas: Mathematics, Applied Science, Process Design, Materials, Manufacturing Processes, Manufacturing Management, Manufacturing Economics, Quality Control, Computer Applications, and Automation
  • Working knowledge of the Fundamentals of Manufacturing
  • More than 2 years of experience working as a Manufacturing Engineer, but not yet a Certified Manufacturing Technologist
  • Ability to make sketches, engineering drawings and common computations
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and computer‑generated reports
  • Previous experience with computer applications and software related to engineering field, such as Computer Aided Design (CAD)

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of hardware and software used in control of manufacturing processes and equipment (Programmable Logic Controllers, Ladder Logic, Human‑Machine Interfaces)
  • Communication networks and protocols used on the shop floor
  • Control systems including pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical sources of energy; sensors, actuators, and various loop control technologies
  • Motion control, servo systems, and multi‑axis control including robotics; working knowledge of electrical controls
  • Strong tooling knowledge and background
  • Understanding and familiarity of Transfer equipment
Additional information from the manager:
  • Position is 6 months to start with the possibility to extend based on performance (could lead to a full‑time position opportunity)
  • Phone interviews will be conducted first followed by an on‑site interview if the first screen goes well
