Job summary

The Lee Company in Westbrook, CT is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to bridge product development and production, planning and executing new product introductions while ensuring cost-effective, reliable processes. Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Develop automation, tooling, and methods for manufacturing processes.
  • Study and estimate new manufacturing methods and time.
  • Evaluate new machines and equipment and advise on purchases.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and purchasing to improve manufacturability.
  • Assist training and supervise work assignments in the department.
  • Prepare test reports, project summaries, and process specifications.

Job Description:

Manufacturing Engineers at The Lee Company play a critical role in bridging product development and full-scale production. They are responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the successful introduction of new products into manufacturing, ensuring processes are cost‑effective, efficient, reliable, and aligned with quality standards. This position works closely with New Product Development (NPD), Quality, and Production teams to solve complex manufacturing challenges and optimize machining and assembly operations.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop proposals for automation, mechanization, methods, special tooling, machine attachments, etc.,
  • Conduct special studies involved in terms of methods, time, and manufacturing estimates on new and complex work.
  • Investigate new machines and equipment as to versatility and diversification of production features required, process and other conditions involved, and prepare reports and recommendations for management information relative to purchase or lease deal.
  • Work closely with other departments, i.e. plant, tool, and product engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, etc. Review engineering drawings and consult with design engineers to enhance manufacturability of products.
  • Assist with instructing, training, and checking of work assignments performed by others connected with the function of the department.
  • Maintain such records and files pertinent to special and regular assignments. Prepare test reports, project summaries, etc. Write process specifications.
Qualifications:
  • B. S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline ideally with some mechanical/machine design experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • CAD experience (SolidWorks preferable)
  • Knowledge of machines, linkages, pressure vessels, hardware, press fits and clearances
