Job summary

POSITION SUMMARY

This position's responsibility is to clearly develop and document efficient manufacturing processes for optimum cycle time and minimum reject rate.

JOB SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong 3D CAD modeling capabilities using SolidWorks and CATIA
  • Expertise in 2D drawing creation and interpretation, including:
    • Part drawings
    • Assembly drawings
    • Tooling drawings
  • Proven ability to read, develop, and manage Product Lifecycle (PL) and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Capable of training and supporting all levels of manufacturing personnel, from operators to supervisors
  • Ability to prepare clear and effective reports, business correspondence, and manufacturing work instructions
  • Confident presenter able to communicate technical information and respond to questions from managers, suppliers, and customers
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing automation and auxiliary equipment
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience with value stream mapping and process analysis
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a proactive, action-driven mindset
  • Self-starter with strong initiative and follow-through
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
NEW PRODUCT & PROCESS IMPLEMENTATION
  • Lead the implementation of new or revised products into the manufacturing facility, including:
    • Sourcing and cost justification of tooling and manufacturing equipment
    • Development of optimized assembly methods and process flows
    • Creation and approval of production work instructions
    • Training of operators and support personnel
    • Establishment of manufacturing targets and monitoring progress toward goals
MANUFACTURING OPTIMIZATION & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
  • Drive improvements in quality, efficiency, and throughput through:
    • Cycle-time optimization and process flow enhancements
    • Scrap, reject, and defect reduction initiatives
    • Implementation of operator-level quality inspection processes
    • Cost-reduction programs across manufacturing operations
    • Streamlining manufacturing steps, documentation, and paperwork
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve manufacturing problems affecting cost, quality, or delivery
LEAN MANUFACTURING & LAYOUT DEVELOPMENT
  • Teach, implement, and sustain Lean Manufacturing principles, including Kaizen and continuous improvement
  • Develop and implement efficient:
    • Work-cell layouts
    • Material flow through individual cells and across the plant
    • Building and equipment layouts
STANDARDS, DOCUMENTATION & TRAINING
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and visual work instructions for:
    • Plastic injection molding processes, including press-side secondary or assembly operations
    • Manual machining and CNC machining
    • Secondary manufacturing and assembly operations
  • Ensure all new manufacturing processes and projects are fully documented and properly handed off to production
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION
  • Collaborate with Engineering to define and specify:
    • Auxiliary equipment, including hand tools and automation
    • Assembly and inspection fixtures
    • Packaging solutions
  • Ensure all elements of new manufacturing projects are clearly communicated and in place for successful production launch
AUTHORITY
  • Calculate project pricing, cost justification, and ROI for new and existing manufacturing initiatives
  • Prepare, execute, and monitor project schedules to ensure on-time implementation
  • Create, modify, and maintain manufacturing standards across ERP systems, processes, and documentation
  • Requisition and direct procurement of tooling, materials, equipment, and other manufacturing resources

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from an accredited four year college or university in Engineering or a related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in plastic injection molding or a related manufacturing environment required
  • Experience within a contract manufacturing organization preferred
