Job summary

Phoenix Lighting is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to develop and implement processes, methods, equipment, and standards used in the manufacture of products. This includes Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA), development of fixtures and prototypes, product testing and design refinement, and supporting the efficient production of high-quality products.

The incumbent will lead DFMA efforts with NPD, drive continuous improvement, and collaborate across engineering and manufacturing

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or related field with 3–5 years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Hands-on in developing and improving manufacturing processes, tooling, work instructions, and production flow.
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects and continuous improvement efforts in manufacturing.
  • Proficient CAD software, strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Experience leading DFMA efforts with engineering teams during new product development.
  • Experience in high-mix, customized or engineered-to-order environments.
  • Familiarity with electromechanical assembly, lighting products, CNC and metal fabrication.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure manufacturability of new and existing products and optimize production flow.
  • Lead project management, process development and related documentation.
  • Develop and maintain fixtures, tooling, and capital equipment justifications.
  • Drive Kaizen events and continuous improvement projects across teams.
  • Collaborate with NPD to ensure new products are designed for efficient manufacturing.
  • Coordinate ERP data flows, layouts, and production routing for space optimization.

Description

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing processes, methods, equipment, and standards used in the manufacture of products. This includes Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA), development of fixtures and prototypes, product testing and design refinement, and supporting the efficient production of high-quality products.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Ensure strong manufacturability of new and existing products.
  2. Implement and maintain advanced manufacturing processes and systems.
  3. Conduct required product testing to ensure products meet quality standards.
  4. Lead project management, process development, and related documentation.
  5. Develop, deploy, and maintain manufacturing fixtures and tooling.
  6. Drive method improvements, cost reductions, and improved process flow.
  7. Specify, evaluate, and justify equipment and capital improvement needs.
  8. Maintain production routings and standard costs.
  9. Build and train teams in continuous improvement processes and tools.
  10. Facilitate Kaizen events and identify, lead, and execute continuous improvement projects.
  11. Lead DFMA efforts with New Product Development teams to ensure new products are designed for efficient manufacturing and assembly.
  12. Connect physical and digital process flows through effective ERP implementation, maintenance, and data discipline.
  13. Plan and oversee layouts for equipment, office, and production areas to optimize workflow and space utilization.
  14. Support and maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
  15. Promote a quality-focused mindset throughout the organization.
  16. Support the training of assembly and materials personnel to maintain quality standards; review process performance and manage key output and flow-velocity metrics.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, plus 3–5 years of progressive manufacturing engineering experience.
  2. Hands-on experience developing and improving manufacturing processes, tooling, work instructions, and production flow.
  3. Experience leading cross-functional projects and continuous improvement efforts in a manufacturing environment.
  4. Proficiency with CAD software, along with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  5. Experience leading DFMA efforts and partnering with engineering teams during new product development.
  6. Experience in a high-mix, customized, or engineered-to-order manufacturing environment.
  7. Familiarity with electromechanical assembly, lighting products, and/or CNC and metal fabrication processes.
  8. Experience designing and creating assemblies and prints in SolidWorks.
