Job summary

PlanIT Group, LLC seeks a Manufacturing Engineer (Skunk Works®) to bridge design engineering and shop floor execution in an advanced aerospace facility. You will lead producibility reviews, develop manufacturing plans, and generate work instructions while mentoring junior engineers.

This on-site, full-time role requires deep knowledge of vehicle systems, production operations, and CAD tools. Travel and occasional after-hours support may be needed, with DoD clearance preferred.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience supporting aerospace vehicle systems in a production environment.
  • 8+ years of experience with production operations and/or engineering.
  • 8+ years providing design engineering with producibility inputs to shape build strategy.
  • 5+ years CAD experience (CATIA V4/5, 3DX experience preferred).
  • Experience in a Manufacturing Engineering position supporting program start-ups, assembly and production processes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as subject matter expert across vehicle systems (fuel, hydraulic, electrical, ECS).
  • Collaborate with design engineering, quality engineering, supply chain, EHS, and production operations.
  • Provide producibility review inputs to shape engineering requirements for efficient builds.
  • Create 3D manufacturing simulations to optimize build sequences and perform clash checks.
  • Review designs and provide manufacturability feedback for cost reduction and performance impact.

Job description

As a Manufacturing Engineer in Skunk Works® you will play a critical role as liaison between our design engineering teams and the elite women and men responsible for building tomorrow's future in an advanced manufacturing and technology facility. You will be an aerospace vehicle systems (fuel, hydraulic, electrical, etc.) expert that will work amongst a team of specialized and professionally engineers to lead producibility reviews, develop manufacturing plans, and guide work instructions generation to directly support the shop floor. Our team is in development, and there will be an expectation to develop, shape, and document processes for manufacturing engineering standard work. As a vehicle systems expert, you will also mentor earlier career engineers on the discipline. We work cross functionally and engage other organizations as needed to support our common program goals. This role may require infrequent travel, extended hours, and possible weekend/off-hour support. We work full time on site.

Key Duties For This Position Include
  • Serve as subject matter expert across vehicle systems (fuel, hydraulic, electrical, ECS, etc.)
  • Work in parallel with design engineering, quality engineering, supply chain organizations, environmental safety & health and production operations
  • Provide producibility review inputs to shape engineering requirements towards a more efficient build process
  • Create 3D manufacturing simulations to drive efficiency throughout the build of our product, perform clash detections, sequence assembly tasks for the lifecycle of the program
  • Review critical designs and provide design for manufacturability feedback of all 3D engineering models to reduce cost and positively impact performance at suppliers across the country
  • Create Manufacturing Engineering Statement of Work contractual requirements
Required Skills
  • 8+ years' experience supporting aerospace vehicle systems (fuel, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, engines, testing) in a production environment
  • 8+ years' experience with production operations and/or engineering
  • 8+ years' experience providing design engineering with producibility inputs to shape build strategy
  • 5+ Years CAD experience (CATIA V4/5, 3DX experience preferred)
  • Previous experience in a Manufacturing Engineering position supporting program start-ups, assembly, and production processes
Desired Skills
  • Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate
  • Project management experience
  • Atlassian Confluence and JIRA experience
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills in vehicle systems manufacturing and test
  • Experience Root Cause and Corrective Action, and FMEA
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and set up production work cells and facility layout changes
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment or independently to solve problems in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering blueprints, process specifications, manufacturing planning, & develop work instructions
  • Ability to effectively present technical information to non-technical people
  • Demonstrated ability to drive issues to closure and develop workaround plans or corrective action plans
  • Active DoD Clearance with an Investigation within the last 5 years AND the ability to obtain and maintain special program access per business requirements.
