Job summary

Qualifications

  • BS degree in manufacturing, mechanical, or industrial engineering required.
  • 3–5+ years in a manufacturing environment, with low volume/high mix preferred.
  • 2–3 years LEAN experience preferred.
  • Ability to lead continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to present to managers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing processes for low-volume, high-mix environments.
  • Create standard work, run Kaizen events, problem solving, line balancing, Poka-Yoke.
  • Use Lean principles to optimize workforce utilization, line balancing, space and workflow.
  • Design layout of workflow and material flow to create pull systems.
  • Collaborate with product engineering, purchasing and suppliers to reduce variability.
  • Lead projects independently to completion.
  • Apply root cause analysis to reduce process variation.

Who will you be working with?

Shuttlewagon, a Wabtec Company, is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer that will have responsibility for the development and improvement of the manufacturing processes in the plant by utilizing continuous improvement methodology. You will report to the Operations Manager.


How will you make a difference?

The Manufacturing Engineer will play a key role in driving continuous improvement across manufacturing operations by optimizing processes, reducing waste, and increasing efficiency. This individual will leverage Lean manufacturing principles, data-driven problem solving, and cross-functional collaboration to improve product quality, streamline workflow, and reduce process variation. By leading improvement initiatives, implementing sustainable manufacturing solutions, and partnering with engineering, purchasing, suppliers, and production teams, the Manufacturing Engineer will help enhance operational performance, support cost reduction efforts, and contribute to a culture focused on exceeding customer expectations.


What do we want to know about you?


  • BS Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or other Manufacturing Technology discipline

  • 3-5+ years in a manufacturing environment - low volume/high mix preferred

  • 2-3 years of LEAN experience preferred

  • Proficient in leading continuous improvement, Lean manufacturing and cost reduction initiatives

  • Proficient in the use of computer applications such as Microsoft products and operating systems

  • Ability to clearly write reports and business correspondence.

  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees and customers.

  • Requires mechanical aptitude and extensive knowledge of machinery

What will your typical day look like?


  • Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing processes and methods for low-volume, high-mix manufacturing/assembly environment

  • Create standard work, run Kaizen events, Problem Solving, Line Balancing, Poka-Yoke, Supplier Development, Product/Process Variation reduction, Waste reduction, Visual Management Design for Manufacturing/assembly

  • Use Lean Principles to analyze and plan work force utilization, line balancing, space requirements and workflow for maximum efficiency and flow

  • Design layout of work flow and material flow to create "pull" systems for inventory replenishment and process flow

  • Collaborate with product engineering, purchasing and suppliers to Poka-Yoke and reduce variability within manufacturing and assembly processes

  • Leads projects independently to completion, often times with little direct authority

  • Use root cause analysis and other scientific problem solving methods to reduce variability in product and process


What about the physical demands of the job?


  • Work is primarily light duty and requires the ability to regularly lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

  • This position requires the ability to sit, stand and walk unassisted.

  • Requires the use of hands and fingers to operate a computer and to handle objects. The employee is required to talk and hear.

  • Normal correctable vision is required.

  • Factory and office settings subject to interruptions, moderate noise and other normal environmental conditions.

  • Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles.

  • Works under routine deadlines and work volume requirements.

  • Normal work hours scheduled by supervisor and may vary on occasion.

Additional Information

The salary rate for this role is currently $62100-85300 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
