Job summary

Bowmar LLC in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is seeking a Design and Manufacturing Engineer for Interface Products to design, develop, and manufacture electronic and electro‑mechanical Bowmar products for aerospace applications, using Lean Manufacturing and Lean Product Development.

You will lead design reviews, develop test equipment, perform root cause analysis, and collaborate across engineering, program management, and production to reduce waste and lead times while maintaining high quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years aerospace/electronics experience or 15 years in military/aerospace electronics.
  • Lean environment experience and proficiency with MS Office suite.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SolidWorks PCB and ORCAD.
  • Familiarity with C and C++ programming.

Responsibilities

  • Design electronic and electro‑mechanical products to meet specifications for operation, reliability and performance.
  • Design and fabricate custom test equipment and write procedures for product testing.
  • Analyze repair returns and non‑conformances; perform root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Develop manufacturing routings, work instructions, and standard worksheets to manufacture aerospace products with lean methods.
  • Lead product design reviews using Lean Product Development and Value Stream Mapping.
  • Engage in continuous improvement to reduce waste, costs and lead times.

Job description

About this position

The Design and Manufacturing Engineer for Interface Products is responsible for the design, development and manufacturing of Bowmar products for commercial and military aerospace applications using Lean Manufacturing and Lean Product Development processes and tools. New product development, as well as sustaining engineering responsibilities, fall under this position.

Responsibilities
  • Design electronic and electro‑mechanical products, specifying components and materials required to meet customer specifications for operation, reliability and performance.
  • Design and fabricate custom test equipment to verify products meet specified customer operating requirements.
  • Author test equipment operating procedures and product test procedures.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot and define repair requirements for customer repair returns and in‑process non‑conformance conditions.
  • Perform root cause failure analysis and provide short and long term corrective action plans.
  • Support program management by analyzing customer specifications to develop product technical proposals and bills of material for quote submittals.
  • Estimate non‑recurring engineering and production labor times for product quotation.
  • Develop manufacturing routings, work instructions, procedures, illustrations and standard worksheets, including time observations to execute the manufacturing of military and aerospace products in the least waste way.
  • Participate in and/or lead product design process and reviews using Lean Product Development, Least Waste Way Project Planning and Value Stream Mapping.
  • Engage in continuous improvement activities resulting in the highest quality, lowest cost and shortest lead‑time.
  • Execute annual Policy Deployment goals for the Engineering Department ensuring organizational commitments and goals are met.

Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 10 years of related experience or 15 years of experience in military/aerospace electronics.
  • Experience in a Lean environment.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SolidWorks PCB, and ORCAD.
  • Familiarity with C and C++ programming.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel frequently, and stand, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reaching with hands and arms occasionally.
  • Vision requirements: close, distant, and color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequent lifting up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to general office and production conditions, including fluorescent lights and occasional risk of radiation, electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles. Typical work environment has moderate noise.
Working Hours

Monday – Friday, 1st Shift.
