Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer Job Description The Manufacturing Engineer will support the development and mechanical redesign of Group 1 unmanned aerial systems (UAS) platforms, including U.S.-variant configurations of existing drone systems. This hands-on role focuses on implementing mechanical modifications to enable person-aligned sourcing, manufacturing scalability, and domestic production objectives. The engineer will create and maintain sub-assembly drawings, define engineering bill of materials (BOM) structures, and drive the transition from engineering configurations to production-ready manufacturing documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical components and sub-assemblies for Group 1 UAS platforms, including U.S.-variant configurations of existing drone platforms.
  • Create and update detailed sub-assembly drawings and associated documentation using 3D CAD tools.
  • Develop and maintain accurate engineering BOM structures to support manufacturing and production planning.
  • Translate engineering configurations into production-ready manufacturing documentation, ensuring clarity, completeness, and manufacturability.
  • Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) fundamentals to ensure proper fit, form, and function of mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Collaborate closely with production and manufacturing teams to support build processes, resolve design issues, and improve manufacturability.
  • Support mechanical redesign and configuration maturation activities to align with person-aligned sourcing and domestic production objectives.
  • Use SolidWorks and other CAD tools to model, revise, and optimize mechanical designs for performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback to refine drawings, BOMs, and documentation.
  • Ensure that all engineering documentation adheres to internal standards and supports efficient, repeatable manufacturing.
Essential Skills
  • Associate degree (2-year technical degree) in Mechanical Engineering Technology, CAD Technology, or a related discipline OR a minimum of 5 years of professional mechanical CAD experience.
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD, specifically SolidWorks.
  • Experience generating sub-assembly and detailed mechanical drawings.
  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) fundamentals.
  • Working knowledge of engineering bill of materials (BOM) structure.
  • Experience supporting a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Mechanical design experience using tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to work in a hands-on mechanical design role focused on transitioning designs from engineering to production.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Background in mechanical design for complex electromechanical or aerospace-related systems, such as unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
  • Experience contributing to mechanical redesign and configuration maturation activities.
  • Familiarity with aligning designs to scalable manufacturing processes and domestic production objectives.
  • Strong attention to detail in creating accurate and clear drawings and documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in engineering and manufacturing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve design and manufacturing issues efficiently.

Work Environment This is an onsite role with a Monday through Friday schedule. The position operates in a production and manufacturing-focused environment where the engineer works closely with engineering and shop-floor teams to support build activities and process improvements. The role involves regular use of 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks and other mechanical design software, as well as interaction with engineering documentation, BOMs, and production systems.
