Job summary

ITT Aerospace Controls LLC in Valencia, CA is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to design and optimize machining processes, develop detailed manufacturing instructions, and select tooling and equipment to meet drawings and specifications. You will improve production flows, support new product introductions, and drive cost-saving manufacturing improvements.

You will collaborate with design and shop personnel, perform process capability studies, and help establish standard times, routings, and BOMs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering.
  • 3–5 years' experience in machining operations or manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience with high-technology CNC multi-axis machines is desirable.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints and GD&T.
  • Strong problem-solving skills; able to manage multiple tasks.
  • CAD design/drawing using CATIA V5, SolidWorks or Creo.

Responsibilities

  • Assist machinists with program prove-out and process validation.
  • Establish standard times for setup and run of operations.
  • Lead studies for cost, timing, and capacity improvements.

Overview

As the Manufacturing Engineer you will prepare detailed manufacturing instructions and programming data to produce machined parts and sub-assemblies to meet engineering drawings and specifications. You will determine manufacturing procedures and operation sequencing and establish tooling, tools, and machine requirements to fabricate parts and sub-assemblies for various products. In addition, you will spend time in the machine shop solving problems and improving processes associated with the parts you are responsible for. You will be part of the decision-making process in determining the planning, costing, and scheduling aspects of new product development parts as well as maintenance of legacy components.

Responsibilities
  • Manufacturing engineering capable to recommend, implement, and improve machining process flows and tools.
  • Assisting machinists with program prove out.
  • Be able to implement quick change over set up tools and process adequate process.
  • Establishing standard times for setup and run of each operation on assigned parts.
  • Originate studies directed towards more efficient manufacturing of parts. Including recommendations for changes in equipment, process methods, materials, and designs.
  • Participates in Engineering design reviews on new products and design changes for Design for Manufacture and Design to Cost. Reviews engineering drawings for manufacturing datum's, key characteristics and tolerance stack up. Works closely with engineering to ensure the design concepts and specifications support the most efficient manufacturing methods and techniques.
  • Participates and/or leads in the specification of new capital equipment needs by preparing statement of work documentation and communicating and working with suppliers.
  • Prepare Items for master data, routings and BOM material usage review and approval.
  • Coordinates and aids in the preparation of capital assets and expenditure budgets.
  • Prepares manpower and machine loading data and conducts capacity studies.
  • Develops cost studies of new manufacturing methods, equipment, and processing and compares with present methods, and prepares summary briefings with recommendations.
  • Frequent contact with both internal and external personnel to convey ideas involving production parts, supplies, equipment, and materials.
  • MRB support in rework instructions and corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Plans sequence of operations for the fabrication of machined parts using 2 axis lathes; 3, and 4 axis horizontal and vertical mills, Miyano & Nakamura 5-13 axis 2 spindle mill/turn with B axis rotary tool spindle, as well as Matsuura 5 axis mill and conventional machining equipmentor similar machinery.
  • Creates, revises, and maintains revision control on all the manufacturing process documents.
  • Understand cellular manufacturing concept and of lean principles.
  • Guide or train Associate Manufacturing Engineers as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering.
  • 3-5 years' experience in standard machining operations or manufacturing engineer, including turning, milling, mill/turns, gear cutting, debur, and grinding. Experience in high technology CNC multi-axis machines is highly desirable.
  • CAD design/drawing experience with CAD, CATIA V5, Solidworks, and / or Creo.
  • Lean Manufacturing, LEAN tools, and Six Sigma knowledge is highly desirable.
  • Capable of planning for production the machining and manufacturing process of a part from start to finish.
  • Proficient in blueprint reading, understanding Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and interpreting 2D & 3D engineering models.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to identifying the root cause of manufacturing/machining anomalies and making corrections.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and able to react to shifting priorities to meet business needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and commitment.
