Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) - Mac

Location: Cupertino, California, United States
Department: Operations and Supply Chain

Description

The candidate will utilize their manufacturing background in the following areas:

  1. Process Development:
  • Assess the suitability of fabrication technologies for specific part designs.
  • Plan validation exercises to demonstrate process feasibility and capability.
  • Lead experiments to produce analyses that inform design, development, and supply chain decisions.
  • Review progress of development activities at supplier locations and serve as the escalation point for critical process issues.
  • New Product Introduction:
    • Act as the responsible engineer to drive process development and capability assessments.
    • Review part design documentation to ensure alignment with process capabilities.
    • Coordinate with Apple suppliers to support process development and data gathering.
    • Establish validation procedures for process acceptance into development and mass production.
  • Supplier Execution:
    • Review supplier tool design, process flow, equipment, DFM, and DOE proposals.
    • Identify shortfalls and implement corrective actions to ensure design compliance.
    • Collaborate with supplier engineering teams to plan process development, allocate resources, and adhere to schedules.
    • Assess supplier readiness for build events and ramp-up, providing mitigation recommendations for potential issues.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • At least 5 years of experience in fabricating parts, jigs, fixtures, tooling, injection molding, plastics, ceramics, or metal machining (CNC, mills, lathes).
    • MSME/BSME or equivalent degree.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Knowledge of DOE, GD&T, SPC, and mechanical fabrication techniques.
    • Background in engineering or program management is a plus.
    Compensation and Benefits

    The base pay range for this role is between $151,200 and $227,600, depending on skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple offers comprehensive benefits including medical and dental coverage, retirement plans, employee stock programs, educational reimbursement, and more. Additional bonuses or relocation assistance may be available.
