Job summary

Frontier AI Lab is seeking a Manufacturing Design Engineer to create and validate production-ready CAD models using FreeCAD. You will document parts and assemblies, apply GD&T, and support various manufacturing processes to ensure manufacturability for AI training data. Strong communication is essential in a remote, contract environment.

The role emphasizes precision engineering, technical documentation, and collaboration with reviewers to produce high-quality, production-ready designs.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience designing mechanical components for manufacturing environments.
• Expertise in FreeCAD or similar parametric CAD software for advanced modeling and drawings.
• Hands-on exposure to sheet metal, CNC, plastics, and injection molding design considerations.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and DFM best practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Create and modify detailed parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical parts and assemblies using FreeCAD or comparable software.
• Develop comprehensive engineering drawings, including GD&T and tolerance stack-ups, suitable for manufacturing handoff.
• Design for a variety of manufacturing processes, such as sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, plastics, and injection molding.
• Perform CAD validation and quality assurance reviews to ensure model accuracy and readiness for production use.
• Prepare clear, concise technical documentation and assembly instructions as reference materials for AI model training.
• Incorporate feedback from technical reviewers to revise and improve CAD models and supporting documents.
