Job summary

Hyperion Materials & Technologies in Columbus, OH is seeking a Manufacturing Associate I to operate a variety of equipment safely and meet quality standards. The role includes assembly, setup, basic troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance as part of lean manufacturing initiatives.

You will collaborate with team members to ensure safe operations, maintain documentation, and communicate production or quality concerns to support personnel as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Solid work experience in light industrial, manufacturing or military service.
  • Ability to use and learn production management tools including LEAN, material management systems, and maintenance of accurate throughput and quality records.

Responsibilities

  • Operate manufacturing equipment safely to produce super abrasives and related products within specified work area.
  • Perform hand assemblies of product, blends, sieved material, and other as required.
  • Perform basic tooling setup, changeovers and troubleshooting with assistance from area experts.
  • Carry out basic preventative maintenance tasks including lubrication and equipment cleanliness.
  • Adhere to documented work instructions and maintain product and process quality measures.
  • Support Lean manufacturing initiatives and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Summary

The Manufacturing Associate I is responsible for safely operating a variety of manufacturing equipment to produce super‑abrasive and related products while meeting quality, productivity, and safety standards. This role performs equipment operation, product assembly, inspection, machine setup, basic troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance in accordance with documented work instructions. The position supports Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, maintains a clean and organized work area, collaborates with team members to promote safe operations, and ensures product and process quality by identifying and communicating production or quality concerns.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Participate in team initiatives to identify and resolve safety issues.
  • Participation in developing LEAN solutions throughout manufacturing.
  • Operate manufacturing equipment safely to produce super abrasives and related products within specified work area. Specifically:
  • Operate automated machinery, presses, lathes, mills, furnaces, wire EDMs, and robotic equipment.
  • Operate chemical processing equipment and handle hazardous chemicals.
  • Perform hand assemblies of product, blends, sieved material, and other as required.
  • Operate and interpret results from measuring tools, gauges, scales, microscopes, go/no go gauges, and visual standards.
  • Perform minor tooling changes, setup and troubleshooting on production equipment. Assist area experts in completing higher difficulty tooling setup, changeovers and troubleshooting.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance tasks including lubrication, filter changes, equipment cleanliness, and other as necessary.
  • Perform housekeeping duties in assigned work area.
  • Partner with team members to ensure the safe and responsible operation of assigned equipment
  • Adhere to documented work instructions: PPF, POCI, EOI, JSA, assembly prints, and other as needed.
  • Assure product and process quality measures are maintained. Communicate quality concerns to relevant technical support personnel.

Education And/or Work Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Solid work experience in light industrial, manufacturing or military service
  • Ability to use and learn production management tools including: LEAN, material management systems, and maintenance of accurate throughput and quality records.
Technical Skills/Physical Requirements
  • Standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, pulling, pushing for majority of work day.
  • Lifting up-to 40 lbs.
  • Manual Dexterity and fine motor skills to handle and manipulate small items
  • Ability to follow moderately complex written instructions
  • Basic computer and keyboard skills
