Job summary

CCAM is seeking a Manufacturing Software Research Engineer to design, develop, and integrate software systems for advanced manufacturing research. The role emphasizes machine learning, data science, and sensor integration in an on-site R&D setting.

You will collaborate with researchers and industry partners on internal and cooperative projects, translating data into actionable insights and deploying ML into real-time systems where applicable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of professional software development, data analysis, and machine learning experience.
• Experience with network-based data communication (TCP, APIs) and data visualization/analysis.
• Experience with image processing (OpenCV) and working with 2D/3D time-series data.
• Familiarity with middleware (Zenoh, MQTT, DDS, OPC-UA) and software in production environments.
• Docker usage and familiarity with SQL/NoSQL databases and data storage tools.

Responsibilities

• Software Development & Integration (80%): build tools in Python, C++, Java, or C#, integrate systems via TCP/IP and middleware, create UIs, use Docker.
• Data Science & Analysis (10%): analyze sensor data from manufacturing systems, use NumPy/Pandas/OpenCV, build ML models with Scikit-learn/TensorFlow/PyTorch.
• Software Evaluation & Technical Consultation (5%): evaluate third-party tools, develop evaluation plans, present findings to stakeholders.
