POSITION SUMMARY

The Manual Machine Operator will be responsible for operating manual machines to produce high-quality metal parts according to specifications. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of machining processes.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

· Follows all environmental health and safety (EHS) policies, practices, protocols, and regulations. Proactively addresses any potential EHS issues and reports any unsafe conditions. Sets a positive example regarding EHS and a safety-first culture.

· Maintains a clean and orderly (6S) work area and equipment to ensure a safe and productive work environment and quality products.

· Pursues continuous improvement by suggesting, implementing, and supporting solutions/strategies to increase productivity, reduce scrap, and improve the operation, and decrease downtime; participates in continuous improvement activities and projects, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation

· Set up and operate manual machine, such as lathe or hobb, to perform a series of machining operations such turning, boring, threading, facing, grinding, drilling and tapering on round metal bars.

· Work from complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications, job orders, tooling instructions and standard charts to obtain necessary specifications as dimensions, tolerances, and tooling instructions.

· Make required adjustments to machinery to compensate for material tooling, machine, or program conditions.

· Troubleshoot and resolve various types of operating difficulties, recommend corrective action on process failures within the department.

· Determine correct cutting tool to use to achieve required dimensions and finish tolerances.

· Inspect part throughout machining process to ensure conformance to specifications using micrometers, calipers, and other associated measurement tools

· Complete necessary able to maintain proper and accurate records, including inspection reports.

General Responsibilities:

· Performs other responsibilities as assigned and/or as needed to support company objectives.

· Meets on-site attendance requirements.

· Pursues continuous improvement by suggesting, implementing, and supporting solutions/strategies to increase productivity, reduce scrap, and improve the operation, and decrease downtime; participates in continuous improvement activities and projects, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Work Experience:

· 2 years’ experience running lathe equipment

· 1 year experience operating manual turning or milling machines

Education and Skills:

· High School Diploma or GED required

· Ability to read, understand, and interpret detailed blueprints, schematics, etc.

· Ability to properly use micrometers, verniers, calipers and tape measures to determine tolerances required

· Ability to hold tight tolerances within .001”

· Ability to use basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry as required

· Familiarity with cutting tools; their applications and uses; and other tools associated with lathing equipment and machine work

· Familiarity with required hand tools; their applications and uses; and safe handling requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Must be able to perform the following physical demands with or without accommodation:

· Position may require person to be on their feet to 8-10 hours standing or walking in a heavy manufacturing environment, constantly performing regularly scheduled maintenance duties

· Ability to lift objects weighing more than 50 pounds infrequently

· Ability to safely operate forklift, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment

· Ability to see and hear in order to perform the functions of this position

· Ability to speak, write and understand English fluently
