Position Title: Manual Machinist

General Summary

Primary duties include, but are not limited to; safely operating various machining tools such as lathes, mills, presses, grinders, saws, drills, boring tools, welders, broaches, and metal spray units to repair existing or create replacement parts for mechanical assemblies or to fabricate new parts from drawings and/or specifications. Use measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, and bearing bore gauges along with proper techniques to determine correct sizing. Record all data necessary to produce expected service and/or design results. May require work both in shop and at various customer locations with overtime as needed.

Job Functions
  • Accurately operate various machining equipment including vertical and horizontal lathes, milling machines, drill presses, surface grinders, hydraulic presses, metal spray torches, broaching machines, welders (MIG, TIG, ARC/Stick, Oxy Acetylene), chop saws, band saws, and dynamic balancing equipment.
  • Read blueprints and/or draft drawings & specifications.
  • Use measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, feeler gauges, and rules to measure and record sizes.
  • Calibrate measuring devices as needed.
  • Calculate tolerances and fits based on measurements.
  • Perform machining tasks like turning shafts, milling keyways, threading, boring cylinders, welding, drilling, grinding, sanding, and balancing.
  • Operate equipment safely and competently.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support company goals.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; technical training or experience preferred.
  • Basic math skills and ability to read and interpret instructions and drawings.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform essential functions with or without accommodations.
Physical Demands

Must be able to sit, stand, talk, see, and hear. Must lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and perform tasks near moving mechanical parts. Vision requirements include color, close, distance, peripheral, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

Moderate to high noise levels typical of industrial settings.
