Job description

General Summary

The Shop Machinist is responsible for the setup and operation of engine lathes, horizontal boring mills, VTLs, and maintaining equipment and supplies.

Essential Job Functions
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy environment by adhering to company and customer safety standards and practices, and legal regulations. Alerts others regarding potential hazards or concerns.
  • Performs all duties as assigned and adheres to TEAM's core values.
  • Operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce precision parts and instruments.
  • Reviews engineering specifications for work orders and performs calculations to determine the appropriate tools, materials, and sequence of operations.
  • Measures, examines, and tests completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments.
  • Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Monitors the accuracy of machining work.
Job Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience with CNC machines and manual lathes or relevant industry experience preferred.
  • Ability to read calipers and micrometers preferred.
  • Ability to provide all necessary hand tools to complete daily tasks as specified by the Shop Foreman.

Work Conditions
  • Position based out of a branch or site location.
  • Indoor and outdoor work in a plant environment.
  • Interaction with crew employees, supervisors, and client personnel.
  • Work around production machinery with extreme noise levels.
  • Must wear safety equipment as required.
  • May be at multiple job sites in a day and tolerate climate changes.
  • Periodic out-of-town travel may be required.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds.
  • Ability to walk, climb, and communicate effectively.
  • Sufficient vision and manual dexterity to perform duties.
  • Mobility to access various environments, including elevated platforms.
  • Ability to focus, multitask, and communicate effectively.
