Job summary

Kurz Industrial Solutions is seeking a Manual Machinist to produce or repair parts for electric motors in a fast-paced Upper Midwest shop environment. You will set up and operate machines, perform milling and lathe operations, and balance assemblies while maintaining safety and quality standards.

The role requires a High School Diploma and experience in rotating apparatus repair, with preference for technical certification or an associate degree.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Technical Certification or Associate’s Degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in rotating apparatus repair (AC and DC electric motors, pumps, blowers, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience in manual machining of parts to produce or repair a product.
  • Mechanical troubleshooting skills and understanding of AC/DC motors.
  • Microsoft Office experience is a plus.
  • Must be a self-starter and work independently.
  • Able to function in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Setup and operation of machines to manually produce or repair parts.
  • Record data to meet service/design results, including sizing and illustrations.
  • Perform milling and lathe work and various edge/bearing operations.
  • Balance assemblies using dynamic balancing equipment.
  • Apply metalizing techniques as needed.
  • Welding using MIG, TIG, torch, and stick welders.
  • Set up precision surface facing, broaching, and bearing work.
  • Use band saws, grinders, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Perform outside field service repairs and estimating work when needed.
  • Observe safety procedures and keep a clean, organized area.

Role Mission

Under the guidance of the Shop Manager, the Manual Machinist will be responsible for machining parts for electric motors for various industries.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Setup and operation of machines to manually produce or repair parts.
  • Record all data necessary to produce expected service and/or design results, including sizing and illustrations.
  • Perform milling operations such as drilling, tapping, boring, and conventional milling and lathe work, using various engine lathes.
  • Balance mechanical assemblies using dynamic balancing equipment.
  • Perform various metalizing (metal spraying) techniques as needed.
  • Perform various welding operations, including setup and use of MIG, TIG, torch, and stick welders.
  • Set up and perform tool‑post fringing operations (e.g. precision surface facing), broaching procedures, and bearing work.
  • Use various hand‑held and stationary power and non‑power tools, including but not limited to: band saws, belt sanders, hand grinders, files, etc.
  • Perform outside field service repairs and estimating work as necessary.
  • Observe all safety procedures and policies and use proper protective equipment (especially eye, ear protection and steel‑toe shoes/boots, gloves, etc.). Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Adhere to all company policies and all other duties as assigned.
Competencies
  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Technical Certification or Associate’s Degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in rotating apparatus repair (AC and DC electric motors, pumps, blowers, etc.) preferably in an electric motor shop environment.
  • Experience in manual machining of parts and pieces to produce or repair a product.
  • Mechanical skills in troubleshooting and electrical theory and understanding of AC and DC motors desired.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office products is ideal.
  • Must be a self‑starter and able to work independently.
  • Must have the ability to function in a fast‑paced environment.
