Job summary

Ni Hao Chinese is seeking Mandarin Teaching Assistants to join our team. This role offers a path toward a teaching career, working in a real LAUSD classroom under a credentialed teacher.

Many past TAs have advanced to teaching positions within LAUSD, with potential future opportunities to become a substitute teacher. The role involves helping children with activities, supporting teachers with language-diverse groups, and guiding students through assignments.

Qualifications

• Fluent in Mandarin Chinese (speaking, reading and writing).
• Experience with elementary students (K-5) preferred.
• Commitment to education and creativity in teaching.

Responsibilities

• Assist in classroom activities and student supervision.
• Support teachers with students of different language levels.
• Help with homework and assignments under teacher guidance.
• Manage a small group of students and direct activities.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm and positive engagement with children.

NIHAO Chinese is a Mandarin Immersion Learning Program focused on building community and supporting overall wellbeing at any age. We work with children ages 2-17 through onsite preschools, after-school programs, school district partnerships, and online classes to help promote a curiosity of learning and support Chinese language development at any level.

NIHAO was founded in 2012 with less than 20 students and has grown to have over 2,000 students go through our language learning program.

Our NIHAO Team uses our unique learning approach to work with your child to incorporate a blended curriculum consistingof language vocabulary, exploration, sensory integration, and project based learning. Our approach creates young leaders in their own educational journey.

About the role

We are looking for Mandarin Teaching Assistants to join our team. This position is perfect for those looking for a future career as a teacher. As a Mandarin TA, you will be given the chance to work in a real LAUSD classroom with a credentialed teacher. Many of our past TAs have moved on to teaching positions at the LAUSD school district and some of our TAs might be given an opportunity to teach in the classroom as substitute teachers.

What you'll do

• Help children with class activities.
• Work with teachers to help students with different language backgrounds and skill levels.
• Help teachers with students' homework and other assignments.
• Be able to manage a small group of students and direct them to work on their assignments.
• Display enthusiasm, understanding, and commitment to ensure the children’s experiences are positive and underpin their educational lives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required (Associate's or bachelor's degree preferred).
• Must be fluent in Mandarin Chinese (speaking, reading and writing)
• Prior experience working with elementary school-aged students (K-5) preferred
• Passionate about education and creative with teaching
• Take initiatives and be able to follow instructions

Hours and Schedule
