Job summary

NIHAO Chinese in Southern California is seeking enthusiastic Mandarin teaching assistants to join our afterschool programs. Work with preschool to AP Chinese students, support classrooms, and collaborate with teachers to make language learning fun.

The role is part-time (25–30 hours/week in the afternoon) with opportunities to develop mini-lessons and communicate with parents in a supportive, growth-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Native Mandarin speaker with proficiency in English.
• Strong problem-solving and multitasking abilities when working with young learners (ages 4–12).
• Preference for candidates with at least 1 year of afterschool program experience.
• Familiarity with education software and Google Suite is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Help children with class activities.
• Work with teachers to support students from different language backgrounds and skill levels.
• Be able to manage a small group of students and direct them in activities.
• Display enthusiasm, understanding, and commitment to ensure positive experiences for children.
• Assist teacher with classroom cleaning and play area supervision.
• Develop mini-lessons that supplement the main curriculum.
• Communicate with parents and school personnel in person and via email.
• Collaborate with fellow educators and curriculum specialists, sharing ideas and feedback.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

About NIHAO Chinese

NIHAO Chinese is a Mandarin Immersion Learning Program focused on building community and supporting overall wellbeing at any age. We work with children ages 2-17 through onsite preschools, after-school programs, school district partnerships, and online classes to help promote a curiosity of learning and support Chinese language development at any level.

NIHAO was founded in 2012 with less than 20 students and has grown to have over 2,000 students go through our language learning program. We are excited to have a new Preschool Coordinator to join our team!

Our NIHAO Team uses our unique learning approach to work with your child to incorporate a blended curriculum consistingof language vocabulary, exploration, sensory integration, and project based learning. Our approach creates young leaders in their own educational journey.

What you'll do

• Help teacher with classroom cleaning and play area supervision.
• Our teaching assistant also have the opportunity and responsibility to develop mini-lessons that are incorporated into the main curriculum.
• Communicate with parents and school personnel in person and through electronic methods, utilizing educational software and email.
• Collaborate with fellow educators and curriculum specialists, sharing ideas, knowledge, and providing constructive feedback.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Native Mandarin speaker with proficiency in English.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to evaluate, analyze, and solve challenges when working with young learnings (ages 4 - 12)
• Familiarity with education software and Google Suite is a plus.
• Excellent multitasking abilities, balancing responsibilities with children and other tasks.
• Preference will be given to candidates with at least 1 year of experience in an afterschool program settings
