Description
The YMCA currently has part-time and full-time childcare entry-level, Mandarin-Speaking Assistant and Teacher positions available in Irvine, CA.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with curriculum-aligned activities for participants, including homework assistance, social-emotional learning, arts and crafts, STEM/STEAM, and physical education.
- Foster youth success through mentorship, guidance, and encouragement, actively encouraging program engagement and participation.
- Support participants in making positive choices, implementing appropriate disciplinary actions when needed to create a stable and nurturing atmosphere conducive to their success.
- Communicate and work effectively with participants, staff, parents, school personnel, and community partners.
- Record and maintain daily attendance and other documentation as required.
- Preferred availability:
- Opening shifts - 6:30am to 8:00am
- Part-time shifts - 1:30pm to 6:00pm
Qualifications
Hiring Criteria
To be considered for a position, applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Education & Certifications:
- Assistant: A High School Diploma or equivalent. For licensed childcare programs, 6 units in Child Development are required. For non-licensed/ASES programs, 48 college units or a passing proficiency exam are required prior to hire.
- Teacher 1: 6 units in Child Development or a related field, with ongoing enrollment in at least 2 units per semester towards completing 12 units.
- Teacher 2: 12 units in Child Development or a related field.
- Teacher 3: 12 college units, including 6 in Child Development or Education, plus a 15-hour preventative health practice certification within 90 days of employment. YMCA Core trainings must be completed within 60 days.
- ASES: 48 college units or passing proficiency exam prior to hire for non-licensed/ASES programs.
- All Positions: Pediatric (EMSA) First Aid and CPR certifications required within 90 days of hire.
- Experience & Background:
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- 6 months of experience working with children is preferred for most roles; Teacher 1 and Teacher 2 require at least 6 months of experience. Teacher 3 requires one year of experience.
