Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer or Physicist with a background in energy systems for a manager‑level role within our Electrical Engineering & Computer Science Practice in Oakland, CA or Menlo Park, CA. In this role you will work as part of a team to combine electrical engineering principles and investigative analysis techniques with robust subject‑specific scientific expertise to implement high‑value solutions to complex technical problems. You will have the opportunity to apply your technical expertise across a wide range of industries and interact with client contacts ranging from managers, engineers, legal staff, and business leaders. You will be expected to demonstrate continued professional growth, both in technical areas relevant to your expertise and in business skills essential to providing effective consulting services.

You will be responsible for
  • Performing electrical engineering analyses consulting related to ongoing Exponent work
  • Preparing technical proposals, pursuing business development opportunities, and performing technical analysis related to medium and high voltage energy systems, as well as interacting with managers, engineers, and non‑technical staff
  • Conducting risk analysis, design analysis, experimental testing for performance, reliability, and risk prediction
  • Executing failure analysis of electrical equipment and products
  • Critically assessing test results, methods of analysis and testing protocols, generating new testing protocols based on new product designs, maintaining a systematic approach to data collection and storage, and report writing
You will have the following skills and qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related field
  • 3–5 years of relevant industry experience after completing a Ph.D.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently or in multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to gather information and convey technical conclusions to individuals in engineering, business, and related industries
  • Ability to support multiple group projects and market the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Practice and its consulting services
  • Technical background in circuits, electronics, or control systems
  • Hands‑on experience or a technical background in energy and power systems is a plus
