Job summary

The Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas is seeking a Managing Editor for The Leaven. The role reports to the Chief Communications Officer and oversees daily operations, production, and high-quality content that communicates the faith and mission of the Church.

This full-time position offers a hybrid work schedule, benefits eligibility, and the opportunity to lead a team of editors, writers, photographers, and freelancers in service to Northeast Kansas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English or related field.
• Minimum five (5) years’ relevant work experience in publication environments.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
• Intermediate proficiency with InDesign, Photoshop, WordPress.
• Practicing Catholic in good standing is helpful and preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, development, assignment, and production of print and digital content.
• Direct marketing, multimedia, podcasting, and special project initiatives.
• Lead and develop editorial, production, advertising, and freelance personnel.
• Build and maintain a network of freelance writers, photographers, and contacts.
• Edit and rewrite copy, headlines and captions; supervise proofreading of pages.
• Manage content for The Leaven’s website and review design and content annually.
• Contribute to the vision for The Leaven by approving redesigns of the newspaper and website.
