Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Editorial Operations professional to manage multiple live scholarly collections, coordinating editors, authors, and production teams. You will monitor performance, enforce timelines, and drive efficient editorial workflows across the lifecycle from submission to publication.

The role emphasizes collaboration with commissioning editors, marketing, and cross-functional teams to maintain quality and timely delivery in a fast-paced publishing environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Demonstrated experience in scholarly, academic, or journal publishing, with strong knowledge of editorial workflows, publishing systems, and the submit-to-accept process.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of publishing ethics, research integrity, peer review processes, and quality standards within a publishing environment.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with editors, authors, reviewers, operational teams, and other cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple live collections simultaneously, establishing priorities, coordinating activities across stakeholders, and driving projects through to successful completion within agreed timelines.
  • Support Commissioning Editors, Guest Editors, and Authors throughout the collection lifecycle through clear, timely, and effective communication.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to support collection promotion activities and align priorities.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for Guest Editors and operational teams.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on collection performance using data and key metrics.
  • Track content flow and delivery against collection submission windows, identifying risks and resolving issues.
  • Provide enhanced oversight of commissioned content and manage escalations.
  • Oversee manuscript screening and ensure submissions progress through peer review and editorial processes.
  • Monitor editorial turnaround times and workflow performance to identify bottlenecks and improve efficiency.
  • Partner with the Editorial Support Advisor team to develop and improve workflow documentation.
  • Liaise with Production and other cross-functional teams to resolve complex queries and ensure content progresses efficiently through publishing workflows and systems.
