It emphasizes accountability by closely monitoring and reporting on the actions of local governments and public institutions. As a digital newsroom, The Augusta Press offers opportunities to contribute to impactful local journalism and shape how regional stories are told online.

Role Description

The Managing Editor is a fulltime, hybrid role based in Augusta, GA. This position oversees daily newsroom operations, including assigning stories, managing editorial calendars, and ensuring timely publication of content. Qualifications
  • Strong editorial and writing skills, including advanced editing, story shaping, and headline writing.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor reporters, provide constructive feedback, and develop talent.
  • Excellent news judgment, with a focus on local issues, accountability reporting, and community impact.
  • Familiarity with digital publishing tools, content management systems, and basic web analytics.
  • Ability to work on-site in Augusta, GA, collaborate with a local team, and engage with community stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple deadlines.
  • Knowledge of media law, ethics, and best practices in fact-checking and sourcing.
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
