Reports To: Chief Revenue Officer

Status: Full Time, Regular, Exempt, Non-Union

Salary: $145,000 - $150,000

The Role

The Managing Director, StoryCorps Studios and Brand Partnerships, leads our key revenue streams, working with brands seeking authentic storytelling and sponsorship opportunities. This executive role combines creative vision with business acumen to develop high-value partnerships that leverage StoryCorps' storytelling methodology as a premium service for organizations aiming to share meaningful stories about their people, customers, and impact. The role involves developing strategies to build relationships with creative decision-makers across sectors, transforming storytelling expertise into sustainable revenue streams through brand partnerships and bespoke projects.

StoryCorps Studios is the creative services arm of StoryCorps, applying its award-winning methodologies to tell stories through voices of real people. The primary services include recording and archiving high-quality conversations and producing co-branded audio stories with visual assets to help clients share community voices compellingly.

The Managing Director will be entrepreneurial, responsible for business development to meet or surpass sponsorship and revenue goals, and will chart growth strategies. They will manage a team of three direct reports, oversee revenue and content development, and interface with senior leadership and external partners.

What You’ll Do
  • Create and refine a business growth plan based on success metrics and market trends
  • Design and execute sales and marketing strategies to meet revenue targets
  • Build a pipeline for sponsorship prospects with the Director of Business Development
  • Lead sales pitches and develop tailored proposals aligning with client goals and StoryCorps’ ethos
  • Innovate new service offerings to maximize impact and revenue
  • Identify revenue opportunities within StoryCorps programs with the Chief of Programs
  • Manage relationships with NPR and other sponsors
  • Inspire and lead a team to cultivate long-term partnerships
  • Develop annual goals, financial forecasts, and monitor financial performance
  • Report regularly on sponsorship and income activities
  • Supervise team members and collaborate organization-wide
  • Represent StoryCorps publicly at meetings and speaking engagements
  • Perform additional duties as needed
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years in brand partnerships with sales and account management experience
  • Proven track record of exceeding revenue goals
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a drive for innovation and progress
  • Experience across various production platforms, including branded content and podcasts, is a plus
  • Strong account management skills with experience managing budgets of $1-5 million
  • Excellent strategic, analytical, and business skills
  • Confident communicator capable of engaging senior leadership and external partners
  • Motivational leadership skills with the ability to foster a positive team environment
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Cultural humility and ability to work in diverse environments
