Job description

We are partnering with an energy consulting firm seeking to appoint a Managing Director to help lead the continued growth of its Power Markets practice.

This is a senior, commercially focused leadership position for an established power-sector advisor who combines a strong understanding of U.S. electricity markets with a proven ability to originate, develop and grow client relationships.

The practice advises investors, asset owners, developers, utilities and other market participants on complex commercial and investment decisions across the power sector. Its work sits at the intersection of power markets, asset valuation, transaction advisory and financial analysis, supporting clients throughout the investment and asset lifecycle.

The Role

The Managing Director will play a leading role in expanding the firm's presence across the U.S. power and infrastructure investment market.

A significant component of the position will be focused on business development and client origination. The successful individual will bring an established network across the energy investment community and be capable of developing senior relationships with private equity firms, infrastructure investors, financial institutions, independent power producers, developers and asset owners.

Alongside originating new engagements, the Managing Director will act as a senior advisor to clients on power-market and investment-related assignments, working alongside experienced analytical and modeling teams to deliver high-quality advisory work.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Originate and develop new client relationships across the power, infrastructure and financial markets.
  • Generate consulting engagements through an established network of investors, asset owners, developers and financial institutions.
  • Lead senior client relationships and act as a trusted advisor on complex investment and commercial decisions.
  • Support transaction-related assignments including acquisition and divestiture due diligence, asset valuation and buy-side/sell-side advisory.
  • Advise clients on wholesale power markets, market fundamentals, asset economics and investment strategy.
  • Translate sophisticated power-market analysis and modeling into commercially relevant insights for investors and senior decision-makers.
  • Lead, manage and develop a team of consultants, providing mentorship, oversight and direction while ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality client engagements.

Candidate Profile

  • Significant experience within power markets, energy consulting, transaction advisory, infrastructure investing or a closely related field.
  • A demonstrable track record of winning and growing advisory or consulting engagements.
  • An established network within the financial community, particularly across private equity, infrastructure funds, lenders, investment firms and power-sector asset owners.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. wholesale power markets and the commercial drivers of generation assets.
  • Experience supporting investment decisions, transactions, valuations, due diligence or power-market assessments.
  • The credibility to engage directly with senior executives, investment professionals and other sophisticated energy-market participants.
  • Strong commercial instincts and the ability to identify, develop and convert new business opportunities.
  • The ability to operate effectively within an entrepreneurial, specialist advisory environment.
  • Direct experience building or operating power-market models is beneficial but is not the central requirement.
  • Previous experience leading a team of consultants, with direct management experience a must.
