ALUMNI RELATIONS (UA-ALUM-IUBLA)

The IUAA activates IU's powerful global network through live and virtual events, volunteer opportunities, scholarship programs, compelling IU content, and seriously fun traditions. Additionally, the association develops and supports volunteer leadership, serves as a voice for alumni as the university evolves, and provides lifelong learning opportunities.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Develops and implements alumni engagement strategies based on best practices and high-quality industry standards, aligned with the strategic plan and vision of the association.
- Designs and manages alumni volunteer and board management programs to meet alumni needs and institutional objectives.
- Creates and evaluates enriching alumni volunteer opportunities that align with university, campus, and IUAA goals.
- Leads teams of alumni communities staff in recruiting and retaining alumni volunteers.
- Organizes and oversees training sessions, annual reporting, conferences, retreats, and events focused on volunteer best practices, leadership development, and professional enrichment.
- Recognizes alumni volunteers through various recognition programs and events.
- Oversees and manages strategic alumni volunteer engagement plans and activities across different service models, including volunteer, market, affiliate, and affinity.
- Collaborates with IUAA and IU Foundation professionals to develop and deliver a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy.
- Ensures communication standards, publications, and materials are accurate, consistent, and aligned with advancement marketing and market segmentation.
- Manages and supports team members with Director-approved strategies for their specific alumni community assignments.
- Provides clear direction, priority setting, monitoring, and evaluation for full-time and part-time staff, student fellows, consultants, and volunteers.
- Hires, trains, and evaluates staff, determining staffing needs and setting strategic priorities.
- Supervises and monitors activities of direct and indirect reports, including part-time students, establishing annual work plans and conducting performance evaluations.
- Provides professional coaching and development guidance through regular performance review conversations and oversight of work outputs.
- Communicates overall Alumni Communities progress on goals, outputs, and outcomes, and provide capacity development and team-building opportunities.
- Participates in organizational meetings, workshops, and staff development programs to enhance team skills and knowledge.
- Enforces university, IUAA, and IU Advancement best practices, policies, and guidelines, including adherence to codes of conduct, technology best practices, and program event safety.
- Develops and monitors IUAA unit budgets, disbursement of funds, and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Serves as an advisor and liaison to the Lifelong Engagement and Giving (LEG) team on strategic approaches to build the pipeline of future alumni leaders and donors.
- Develops and manages an annual work plan based on input from key strategic partners.
- Contributes actively to outreach and engagement leadership teams, advisory boards, professional forums, and institutional committees.
- Develops and manages significant budget recommendations for assigned areas, monitoring and approving all budget expenditures.
- Prepares reports and analyze the effectiveness of programs and activities within the assigned portfolio.
- Represents the Alumni Association and IU Advancement at awards, graduation, and celebration events, and on various advisory boards and professional forums.
- Collaborates with and report to IUAA LEG executive leadership on communications, marketing, and market segmentation needs for the unit.
General Responsibilities
- Conceptualizes, designs, and leads in the planning and implementation of initiatives to identify, engage and connect alumni in supporting the university as volunteer leaders and contributors.
- Defines priorities and implement best practices for outreach, training, programs and events that recognize and meet alumni priorities and university objectives.
- Establishes goals, provides direction and monitors progress toward objectives for team members supporting the alumni community.
- Collaborates with other unit partners and development offices to ensure consistency and coordination in alumni outreach and to enrich key programming that fosters alumni relationships.
- Develops a comprehensive communications strategy across multiple media for targeting and building the alumni pipeline, volunteers and leaders.
- Serves on the leadership team developing strategic plans, budgets, policy setting and reports.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
This role requires routine travel, including over-night travel, by car or airplane. The person in this role will frequently attend events in the evening and on week-ends.

$93,000 - $103,000 dependent upon experience
