Job summary

Harvard University VPAL is seeking a Managing Director to lead and manage all VPAL production and administrative staff and functions, including Course Creation, Marketing, HR, Finance, and Technology.

Reporting to the Vice Provost and Deputy Provost, the role shapes strategic initiatives, manages a department of 80+ staff and a $22 million budget, and drives modernization including AI tools.

This 18-month benefits-eligible term position is on campus in Cambridge, MA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, including leadership roles.
• MBA or equivalent.
• Strong project management and communication skills.
• Experience in online learning or educational technology helpful.

Responsibilities

• Lead 80+ staff and oversee department operations.
• Manage the +$22 million budget and financial planning.
• Develop and execute department goals and strategic initiatives.
• Collaborate with VPAL and university leadership.
• Drive transformation of course development, AI applications, and process improvements.
• Oversee relationships with faculty and external stakeholders.
