Job summary

Qualifications

  • Lead complex environmental emergency response and remediation projects from initial response through cleanup and closure.

Salary Range: $175,000–$200,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications


About the Role

Earth Systems is seeking an experiencedManaging Director, Emergency Response to lead complex emergency response and environmental remediation operations across the United States.


This senior leadership position combines emergency response expertise, environmental remediation, regulatory knowledge, technical leadership, and client management. The Managing Director will lead multidisciplinary teams and contractors through complex incidents and remediation projects while helping strengthen and grow the company's emergency response and remediation capabilities.


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead complex environmental emergency response and remediation projects from initial response through cleanup, remediation, and regulatory closure.

  • Provide technical and operational leadership during oil spills, hazardous substance releases, chemical incidents, and other complex environmental emergencies.

  • Lead and operate effectively withinNIMS/Incident Command System (ICS) and Unified Command structures.

  • Coordinate with Federal and State On-Scene Coordinators and federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.

  • Work extensively withU.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Area Committees andEPA Regional Response Teams (RRTs).

  • Direct and coordinateOil Spill Removal Organizations (OSROs), emergency response contractors, spill cooperatives, and other specialized resources.

  • Evaluate and execute effective on-water oil containment and recovery strategies and tactics.

  • Provide technical oversight ofShoreline Cleanup Assessment Technique (SCAT) activities and support theNatural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) process.

  • Evaluate air modeling and other technical data to guide operational and planning decisions during chemical releases.

  • Provide technical oversight of environmental investigation, cleanup, and remediation activities involving soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and hazardous materials.

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams and manage project scope, schedules, budgets, contractors, and deliverables.

  • Maintain senior-level relationships with clients, regulators, contractors, and response organizations.

  • Support business development, proposals, and continued growth of the Emergency Response and Remediation practice.

  • Maintain a strong Health & Safety culture across all emergency response, remediation, and field operations.


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, or a related technical discipline.

  • CurrentProfessional Engineer (PE) license.

  • Extensive experience withUSCG Area Committees.

  • Extensive experience withEPA Regional Response Teams (RRTs).

  • Strong working knowledge of Federal and StateOn-Scene Coordinator roles and responsibilities.

  • Broad knowledge and experience across federal, state, and local environmental regulatory programs.

  • Qualified as aType II Incident Commander or higher.

  • Advanced knowledge ofNIMS andICS.

  • Demonstrated experience working withOSROs, emergency response cleanup contractors, and spill cooperatives.

  • Knowledge and practical experience withSCAT and NRDA.

  • Demonstrated ability to use air modeling data to guide operational and planning decisions associated with chemical releases.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing on-water containment and recovery strategies during oil spill response.

  • Experience responding to complex, multi-jurisdictional incidents involvingoil, hazardous substances, and radiological components, including incidents involving civilian or military aircraft, vessels, and land-based assets.

  • Experience leading complex environmental remediation projects and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Strong client management, technical leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.


Security Requirements


  • Knowledge and experience handlingControlled Unclassified Information (CUI) or higher-classification materials.

  • Ability to comply with applicable federal security and information-handling requirements.

  • Ability to meet eligibility requirements for aU.S. Federal Top Secret security clearance, when required.


Travel & Emergency Response Availability

This position requires significant nationwide travel and the ability to mobilize on short notice for emergency response activities.


Candidates must be available for emergency response assignments that may include extended deployments, overnight travel, and work outside normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
