Job summary

X4 Engineering is seeking a Managing Director, Certifications to lead the Food Assurance business unit. This fully remote role includes monthly travel to the US headquarters and ownership of the unit's P&L, delivery, and growth strategy.

The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of food safety certification schemes (BRC, SQF; PrimusGFS a plus), audit delivery expertise, and a proven track record in leading teams and managing financial performance.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of food safety certification and audit schemes, especially BRC and SQF; familiarity with PrimusGFS or similar schemes is a plus.
• Auditing experience is preferred but not mandatory; understand how audits are delivered and how certification programs operate.
• Experience managing or reporting on business financials, ideally with some P&L responsibility.
• Proven ability to lead and develop a team, including management through others.

Responsibilities

X4 are working with a major US-based TIC organization, looking for a Managing Director, Certifications to lead their Food Assurance business unit.

This is a fully-remote position, with monthly travel to their US headquarters.

Key responsibilities:

• Take ownership of the Certifications business as a standalone unit, covering business performance, financial reporting, auditor utilization, technical delivery & team leadership.
• Lead, support & develop the certification team, including the program management function.
• Manage auditor utilization rates, scheduling, capacity planning & backup coverage across the audit team.
• Own P&L reporting (monthly/quarterly) for the business, balancing service quality with sustainable, long-term growth.
• Identify opportunities to expand beyond the organization's core GFSI audit schemes (e.g. PrimusGFS).

Education & Skills Required:

• Strong understanding of food safety certification & audit schemes, particularly BRC and SQF; familiarity with PrimusGFS or similar schemes is a plus.
• Prior auditing experience is preferred but not mandatory: candidates should understand how audits are delivered and how technical reviewers/certification programs operate.
• Experience managing or reporting on business financials, ideally with some P&L responsibility.
• Proven ability to lead & develop a team, including managing through others.
• Strong business acumen: able to identify opportunities and improve profitability.
• A strong contractor network is helpful, particularly for providing audit coverage and scaling delivery.

Candidates will need full rights to work in the US to be considered for this role.

Base salary $160k-$180k + 15% bonus.
