Job description

The Department of Mental Health at the Bloomberg School of Public Health has an outstanding opportunity for a 100% FTE Managing Director, Center for Global Mental Health (GMH). The Managing Director will be responsible for a comprehensive set of activities including program operations management, research coordination, fiscal and grant management, marketing, and communications. Core competencies for this position include strong communication, program management skills, organizational skills, professionalism, and independent problem solving.


The Managing Director will plan, organize, and support the development and implementation of communications and outreach (in collaboration with the departmental communications associate), educational, training, and research programs in global mental health. The Managing Director will contribute to the coordination of global mental health research studies conducted by the Chair and affiliated DMH scientists.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Marketing & Communications

  • Develop marketing and communications plan in collaboration with departmental Communications Associate.
  • Develop content, maintain and update website for Global Mental Health.
  • Manage Global Mental Health Program’s social media presence.
  • Compose monthly Global Mental Health Program e-newsletter and distribute to selected audiences.
  • Manage mailing list communications.
  • Coordinate outreach to build networks, partnerships, and collaborations.

Global Mental Health Planning & Operations Coordination

  • Assist with implementation of strategic planning activities.
  • Conduct landscape analyses to identify strategic areas of focus for GMH.
  • Plan and manage logistics for campus-wide meetings of global mental health researchers.
  • Plan and manage logistics for quarterly external speaker series.

Global Mental Health Education & Training Coordination

  • Assist with development of education and training content in global mental health.
  • Plan and coordinate activities of the regional global mental health lab in collaboration with faculty leads.
  • Assist with planning of global research and practice electives.
  • Support processes for course development and coordination in global mental health.
  • Plan and manage processes for periodic review of global mental health educational and training activities across the university.
  • Plan and manage processes for student/trainee engagement in global mental health educational activities, (e.g. global mental health journal club or seminar series)

Research Development & Management

  • Organize proposal development team meetings and communications.
  • Prepare Human Subjects, Facilities and Resources, Budget, Budget Justification, and References sections.
  • Coordinate acquisition of biosketches and letters of support.
  • Coordinate access to existing datasets, including development of procedures for access and utilization.

Human Resources & Supervision

  • Lead the recruitment and hiring process for graduate research assistants and program staff for the Center.
  • Liaise with Department Administrator to process graduate research assistant offer letters quarterly’ oversee set-up through department payroll.
  • Onboard newly hired graduate research assistants/research fellows.
  • Assist with faculty recruitments in the center’s area of research and practice.

Financial Management & Administration

  • Work closely with Dr. Collins and center leadership to develop budgets for projects.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to funders.
  • Coordinate the program’s travel arrangements including airfare, lodging, transportation.
  • Process all program travel reimbursements.
  • Procure items by following department policies and procedures.

General
  • Facilitate communication through coordination of project-related meetings and calls.

  • Strong interest in mental health, public health, mental health needs of populations in adversity.
  • Excellent technical communications skills, both written and verbal, and ability to communicate to a range of audiences.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand, synthesize, and distill large amounts of information.
  • Ability to appropriately communicate with external partners.
  • Experience with social media and website content generation and management.
  • Experience leading/managing projects and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with managing research or other programmatic budgets.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with demanding and/or shifting deadlines.
  • Excellent work attitude and habits including strong interpersonal skills, reliability, flexibility, self-motivated and the ability to think and work independently and as a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and critically in problem-solving and project implementation.
  • Ability to stay abreast of relevant current global mental health research, news, developments and events and keep global mental health faculty up to date and proactively engaged as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Five years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in public health.
  • Seven years related experience.
  • Strong interest in mental health, global health, mental health disparities/ equity.
