Job summary

Texas Performing Arts at The University of Texas at Austin seeks a Managing Director to execute the Executive & Artistic Director’s strategy, lead daily operations, and ensure financial health across business operations, facilities, production, event management, and guest experience.

Reporting to the Executive & Artistic Director, this role directs HR, finance, IT, procurement, and administrative teams, partners with UT units, and serves as a trusted public face when needed.

Qualifications

  • At least ten years of experience in the arts, entertainment, education, or non‑profit sectors.
  • Demonstrated success using administrative, financial, and operational skills to achieve results in a mission‑driven organization.
  • Ability to solve complex problems within standard policies and procedures.
  • Experience with a large direct-report structure across multiple functions (recruiting, developing, managing, retaining).
  • Strong leadership presence with exceptional written and spoken communication; authenticity, confidence, and emotional intelligence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level leadership to heads of Business Operations, Guest Experience, Production, HR, Facilities, and Event Management (30%).
  • Lead external relations with university and industry partners; report to Leadership Board (10%).
  • Oversee financial planning and management; budget development, reporting, and balance sheet oversight (30%).
  • Drive operational excellence and cross‑functional coordination across the organization (30%).
  • Support expansion of programming, educational impact, and world‑class facilities and experiences.
