ERM is seeking a Managing Consultant, Electric Transmission Routing & Siting Project Manager to support our growing power sector business in the Great Lakes and Northeast regions. The ideal candidate will have proven success in project management or task leadership on electric transmission projects, managing staff, assessing environmental conditions, and preparing reports. Strong technical writing and communication skills are essential. Experience with transmission line routing/siting and permitting in the Midwest and/or Virginia is highly desirable. The candidate should be located in the Midwest or East Coast.

As a project manager, you will leverage your consulting and management skills to support ERM’s growth in the Great Lakes and Northeast regions, collaborate with our national and global teams, and expand our impact assessment expertise. This role offers an excellent opportunity for mid- to senior-level professionals to advance their careers with a global environmental leader.

Responsibilities:
  1. Lead routing and siting studies, conduct analyses, and oversee report preparation for complex electric transmission projects.
  2. Manage multiple projects, ensuring scope, budget, schedule, and quality standards are met.
  3. Delegate tasks and mentor junior staff.
  4. Prepare expert witness reports and provide testimony at hearings.
  5. Participate in agency meetings and public outreach events.
  6. Contribute to technical proposals and business development activities.
  7. Build strong collaborative relationships within ERM.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, Natural Resources, Land Use Planning, Cultural Resources, or related fields; or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of consulting or industry experience with power projects.
  • Experience managing routing and siting of electric transmission projects, especially in the Midwest or Virginia.
  • Excellent writing, communication, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Technical expertise in transmission line siting, construction, and impact assessment (wetlands, protected species, visual, cultural resources).
  • Strong team-building and influencing skills, high integrity, and client-focused mindset.
  • Positive attitude, collaborative approach, and drive for success.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15%.

Compensation ranges from $87,316 to $106,972 annually, based on experience and other factors. Benefits include paid time off, health insurance, 401(k), and more.
