Job summary

Legal Aid of Western Missouri seeks a Managing Attorney to lead the Central Office in Kansas City, serving Jackson, Clay, and Platte Counties. The role reports to the Deputy Director of Programs and supervises six supervising attorneys and roughly 80 staff.

It is a people-leadership position with a personal case load of 10–20%. Responsibilities include overseeing operations, performance management, and ensuring high-quality legal work across practice areas while maintaining strong community

Qualifications

Juris Doctor degree and licensed to practice law in Missouri.
Minimum eight years of legal experience.
Significant staff supervision and management experience.
Strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Lead, supervise, and develop the Central Office's supervising attorneys and their teams.
Oversee day-to-day operations of a large office and set team priorities.
Manage performance evaluations and professional development.
Oversee and review all central-office legal work for quality and consistency.
Ensure compliance with LSC regulations and relevant policies.
Oversee intake practices and track case-type trends.
Design and lead outreach and community legal education efforts.
Build relationships with courts and community partners.
Support hiring and ongoing staff development.
Serve on the Legal Aid leadership team.
