Job description

At Armanino, you determine your career path. This means it’s possible to pursue challenges you are passionate about, in industries you care about.

Armanino is proud to be Among the top 20 Largest Public Accounting Firms in the Nation and one of the Best Places to Work. We have a community of resources that are ready and willing to support your ideas, build your skills and expand your professional network. We want you to integrate all aspects of your life with your career. At Armanino, we know you don’t check-out of life when you check-in at work. That’s why we’ve created a unique work environment where your passions, work, and family & friends can overlap. We want to help you achieve growth by giving you access to a network of smart and supportive people, willing to listen to your ideas.

Armanino’s Valuation and Forensics Practice assists start-ups, private and public companies, estates, attorneys, as well as venture capital and private equity firms with business valuation, real estate, and custom financial modeling services. Armanino’s valuation team has a track record of delivering industry leading expertise and value to clients across a wide range of industries and consulting assignments. We are looking to add to our wickedly smart team in the one of the following locations: the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, or Irvine (California); Dallas or Austin (Texas); Seattle, (Washington); St. Louis (Missouri); Atlanta (Georgia); Chicago (Illinois); Philadelphia (Pennsylvania); New York (New York); or Denver (Colorado).

As a Manager in Armanino’s Valuation and Forensics Practice, you will own complex valuation engagements end to end — scoping, modeling, reviewing, and defending your conclusions with clients, auditors, and regulators. Managers are the day-to-day leaders on their engagements: technically deep enough to be the go-to resource on at least one valuation specialty, commercially minded enough to spot the next opportunity, and invested in developing the consultants and senior consultants who work alongside them.

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage, review, and deliver valuation projects for the following purposes: financial reporting purposes (ASC 805/ASC 350), gift and estate tax, 409A/ASC 718, management planning, litigation support, and/or M&A

  • Manage and mentor staff and senior analysts by working hand in hand to answer questions from them on a regular basis

  • Review the work of consultants and senior consultants, provide written and verbal coaching, and serve as a performance coach to one or more team members

  • Work with directors and partners to prepare engagement letters for new projects

  • Build, review, and defend financial models across the income, market, and asset approaches, including discounted cash flow, guideline public company and transaction methods, multi-period excess earnings, relief-from-royalty, with-and-without, replacement cost, option pricing (Black-Scholes/OPM), and/or Monte Carlo simulation

  • Serve as the technical resource on assigned engagements, applying current AICPA, ASC, IRS, and USPAP guidance and documenting conclusions so they withstand auditor, PCAOB, and IRS scrutiny

  • Lead the resolution of external review questions, engaging directly with audit teams, valuation specialists, and client stakeholders to support assumptions and conclusions

  • Work with staff and senior analysts to ensure all projects in the pipeline are completed on budget and on time

  • Frequently communicate with key client contacts throughout the valuation process

  • Network internally to help grow the business

  • Identify out-of-scope and whitespace opportunities and introduce colleagues across Armanino’s tax, audit, transaction advisory, and forensics teams to your clients

  • Contribute to thought leadership, webinars, and market-facing materials that build the practice’s brand

  • Manage, key initiatives and metrics, including but not limited to metrics related to billing, utilization, and A/R

  • Contribute to model, template, and innovation efforts — including the responsible use of AI-enabled tools — to improve engagement quality and efficiency

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, accounting, finance, statistics, mathematics, or engineering;

  • Minimum of 5 years of valuation experience within a national business valuation firm or valuation practice of a major accounting or consulting firm;

  • Prior experience effectively resolving external review questions (auditors, IRS, etc.)

  • Strong client communication skills

  • Exceptional report and memo writing skills, with the ability to translate complex analyses into clear, defensible narratives for clients, auditors, and courts

  • Demonstrated command of the income, market, and asset approaches and of the reporting requirements under ASC 805, ASC 350/360, ASC 718/409A, and ASC 820

  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills, with working knowledge of market data sources such as S&P Capital IQ, Bloomberg, or equivalent

  • Relevant valuation designation(s) ASA, CFA, ABV, or CVA

  • Ability to develop external relationships (networking, referral sources, etc.) and the desire and ability to bring new clients into the business

  • Strong client management, consulting, communication, and leadership skills managing expectations and delivering high quality solutions on-time within scope and budget

  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent engagements and deadlines while owning engagement economics, including budgeting, billing, realization, and collections

  • Detail oriented, flexible, and responsive

  • Must adhere to Armaino’s 50% in-office requirement

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience within a Big 4, national, or leading boutique valuation practice

  • Depth in one or more specialties, such as complex securities and share-based payments, purchase price allocations, gift and estate tax, real estate, or litigation support

  • Prior experience supporting audit reviews under US GAAP and/or IFRS

  • Demonstrated thought leadership through speaking engagements, publications, or professional association involvement
