Position Overview
As a Manager of Writing, you'll help inspire and elevate a team of writers to bring our brand to life across every touchpoint. You will blend high-level vision with hands-on execution—defining the tone, messaging, and storytelling that resonates with our audiences while ensuring consistency, clarity, and impact across digital, product, and marketing experiences.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of writers, providing coaching, feedback, and direction to help them do their best work, tailored for the product or experience they're aligned to.
- Lead and facilitate active collaboration with strategists, researchers, product leaders, legal, regulatory, medical, labs, and the respective Experience Design team members to produce deliverables that ladder to the overarching editorial standards.
- Develop content across the full customer journey—including upper-funnel brand and awareness messaging, conversion-focused content marketing, long-form educational or evergreen content, and interface-driven UX copy.
- Evolve and champion our brand voice to ensure it resonates with multiple audiences, products, and contexts.
- When needed, review draft content, provide clear feedback, mentoring, and coaching.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert in all things writing and help lead both partners and peers alike to help think how copy drives utility and inspires, equally.
- Remove impediments and ensure delivery of the overall experience vision & OKRs.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with senior leadership and other departments (e.g., medical, legal, regulatory, marketing)
- Research and stay up-to-date to help lead the adaption of the enterprise-wide writing best practices, standards, principles, and how AI will fit into our perspective.
- Create systems and strategies that help writers thrive. Lead the use of design thinking and storytelling, to compellingly convey the vision, flow, and features of the products/services being designed
- Help support the writing, editing, and testing of content, and lead its improvement that makes our products and experiences easier to use across Exact Sciences products and experiences.
- Understand how to write for and weave in the most recent Accessibility and SEO practices into your work.
- Understand and prioritize problems, opportunities, and solutions that contribute to the product roadmap, strategy, and vision leveraging data, research, industry trends, and business objectives.
- Maintain morale and support employee engagement initiatives.
- Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.
- Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.

- Ability to travel 10-20% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Journalism, Mass Communications, Design, Computer Science, or related field; or high school degree/general education diploma and 4+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
- 7+ years of experience in a UX writing/technical writing or related role and/or Business Process Management, Business Continuous Improvement or related field. 5+ years of processional experience working within a regulated document control environment.
- 5+ years of leadership experience.
- Proficient with basic computer skills to include Internet navigation, Email usage, and word processing.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
- Extensive experience in applying techniques and methods of modern user content creation, discovery, and delivery – along with expertise with platforms and tools used widely by UX Teams (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Sketch, Miro).
- Extensive experience problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills with the ability to evolve UX strategy based on research, data, and industry trends.
- Experience in relationship building, motivation, and curiosity to bring together different personalities for creative thinking and collaborative solutioning.
- Extensive experience engaging with strategists, product managers, engineers, researchers, SMEs, and company leaders in a constructive and collaborative relationship where you can both learn and influence.
- Experience recruiting, coordinating, developing, and managing a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to agilely adapt to the respective audience (team member to senior leadership).
- Strong organizational and time management skills with a proactive and logical approach to workload and ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Salary Range:
$129,000.00 - $208,000.00
The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis and may differ by hiring location. In addition, this position is bonus eligible, and is eligible to be considered for company stock at hire and on an annual basis.
