Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of the product to our customers, accomplished through thorough planning and an ongoing process of monitoring driver performance, equipment condition and performance, and business volume, while effectively managing expenses in an ever-changing environment.


RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Closely monitor driver performance via the use of available technology and other control features
  2. Maintain detailed records of driver pay, equipment maintenance, and equipment performance
  3. Review driver logs and paperwork to ensure accuracy and adherence to policy and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
  4. Closely monitor equipment to ensure safe operation and minimize breakdown
  5. Order necessary parts and equipment used in driver performance of responsibilities
  6. Review routing and make the necessary adjustments to ensure optimal efficiency
  7. Hire, train, direct and discipline transportation personnel to achieve the most effective use of human and physical assets
  8. Plan and schedule the assignment of work for transportation personnel
  9. Process weekly payroll
  10. Verify vendor invoices and complete A/P vouchers
  11. Monitor trip records and fuel reports for mileage, fuel costs, and fuel economy
  12. Monitor monthly expenses in relation to planning and make the necessary changes
  13. Perform the necessary requirements of the Department of Transportation
  14. Other duties as assigned by Management
  15. Assure safety awareness and compliance practices are adhered to in the department and distribution center
  16. Direct and coordinate all driver observations relative to safe operations, the performance of PWM and accurate delivery procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
A high school diploma/GED

Experience

  1. 4 - 8 years of transportation experience
  2. 4-year degree plus 4 years of transportation supervisory experience and a broad understanding of computer systems, routing, and DOT regulations is preferred.

Physical Demands

  1. Work is primarily sedentary in nature
  2. Frequent standing and bending is required when checking equipment
  3. A substantial portion of the day is spent on key entry
  4. You must have the ability to communicate clearly, primarily via telephone, with vendors, shippers, customers, and company personnel.
  5. May be required to drive and/or help unload products weighing up to 75 lbs
  6. Move product on the 2-wheeler


Mental/Visual Demands

  1. You must be able to read text that is close and at a distance with or without correction
  2. You are required to be constantly alert while driving.
  3. In addition, you must be able to perform a manual task, hear, sit, reach, and interact with others


Working Conditions
Activities occur both inside (protection from weather conditions but not temperature changes) and outside


Equipment Operated
A calculator, copier, fax, PC, CRT, Microsoft Office applications and telephone equipment are used in this position


License or Certifications
None, however a CDL driver's license and certificate of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations training is preferred
