Job description

We are looking for a talented human geneticist and bioinformatician to join the Cardiovascular, Metabolic and Musculoskeletal Therapeutic Area Genetics team at the Regeneron Genetics Center (RGC). The team's mission is to discover new disease biology, identify new drug targets, select indications for drug programs, and pinpoint patient subgroups more likely to respond to treatments through genetic analyses of over 1 million sequenced individuals. The RGC houses one of the world's largest and most comprehensive datasets on human genetics, offering a fantastic opportunity to be part of a pioneering team at the forefront of genetics-based drug discovery and translational genetics.

The rapid growth in sequencing datasets at the RGC presents new challenges and opportunities for data mining. Your role will involve developing, implementing, and applying analytical methods to enhance our capabilities for extracting biological insights into cardiometabolic diseases. You will collaborate closely with analytical genomics and genome informatics teams to integrate new functionalities into browsers and cloud systems, translating genetic findings into insights for our cardiometabolic disease programs. Working with inclusive, multidisciplinary teams at the RGC and Regeneron, you will help translate findings into biological insights.

In this role, a typical day might include:

  1. Mining the 2M+ sequencing data to generate new hypotheses about cardiometabolic disease, integrating diverse data sources for new inferences.
  2. Developing new analytical approaches, data processing pipelines, and establishing internal data practices in collaboration with the Genome Informatics and Analytical Genomics teams.
  3. Collaborating to develop and integrate new functionalities into browsers and tools hosted on AWS to support translational genetics work.
  4. Automating analytical approaches, designing interfaces, and supporting code development in R to enable team members.
  5. Trialing innovative ideas.
  6. Presenting results in internal and external meetings to diverse audiences.
  7. Delivering reliable analyses across projects in a dynamic, high-paced environment.
  8. Contributing to scientific reports and publications.

This job might be for you if you have:

  • A strong work ethic, proactive solutions, scientific collaboration skills, and project-driven mindset.
  • Experience setting up codebases for human genetic studies in high-performance computing environments.
  • Proficiency with Git, scripting or programming languages, especially R and R-Shiny.
  • Experience applying statistical genetics to gain insights into human biology and ideas to advance the field.
  • An interest in understanding the genetic basis of cardiometabolic diseases and translating this into biological or medical insights.

Qualifications:

PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistical Genetics, Human (Population) Genetics, Genetic Epidemiology, or a related field, with strong computational skills. Candidates with at least 2 years of relevant postdoctoral experience are encouraged to apply.
