Job Responsibilities

Depending on the level of the management trainee role, some or all of these responsibilities might be part of the training process. This list is not exhaustive.

  1. Produce annual budget and achieve budgeted goals.
  2. Oversee and follow goals presented in budgets.
  3. Collaborate with sales and inventory managers to identify product orders.
  4. Ensure all orders are processed timely and efficiently.
  5. Oversee nursery marketing in coordination with sales and marketing departments, focusing on promotions, communication, customer appreciation, promotional materials, and customer events.
  6. Assist with purchasing wholesale materials.
  7. Determine quantities needed to address inventory shortages, following the budget guidelines.
  8. Monitor inventory levels and report discrepancies to the warehouse manager.
  9. Develop and improve pesticide programs and educational initiatives.
  10. Identify new chemicals and discontinued products.
  11. Oversee maintenance of chemical usage logs and MSDS documentation.
  12. Hire employees, conduct training, and assist with payroll duties, including scheduling and supervising staff.
  13. Prepare employee work schedules and manage time off requests.
  14. Maintain safety awareness and ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  15. Implement safety training, enforce safety regulations, and communicate policies to employees.
  16. Accommodate employees with light duty restrictions as needed.
  17. Provide customers with product care information and procedural advice, ensuring excellent customer service.
  18. Assist the General Manager in meetings and other duties as needed.
Experience & Skills
  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities effectively.

  • Independent judgment for spontaneous problem resolution.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Forklift operation experience and certification are required.
  • Full-time position, typically 10-hour days.
  • Physical ability to walk and stand for entire shifts, lift, pull, push, or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Weather-dependent work environment with exposure to summer heat and winter cold.
  • Ability to operate equipment and drive on company business.
