Responsibilities

• Assist the Farm Unit Manager in planning and executing daily farm operations (irrigation, fertilization, pesticide application, equipment use).
• Safely operate and monitor center-pivot irrigation systems to ensure consistent water application and minimize downtime.
• Support irrigation scheduling using soil-moisture data and field conditions.
• Assist with operation, troubleshooting, and repair of irrigation systems and related controls.
• Apply fertilizers and chemicals per label, calibrate, mix, apply, and document.
• Formulate and blend dry and liquid fertilizers as needed.
• Operate farm machinery and perform minor repairs and maintenance.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance and chemical applications.
• Monitor crop health and coordinate corrective actions with leadership.
• Provide direct supervision of assigned employees and training.

AgriNorthwest is seeking a reliable Manager Trainee to join our local farm team!

Summary:

The Manager Trainee supports the Farm Unit Manager (FUM) in the execution of agronomic, irrigation, and farm operations while providing direct day-to-day supervision. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality field operations through hands on technical work, employee oversight, and coordination of irrigation, fertilizer, and pesticide activities. Work is performed with limited supervision and requires a strong focus on accuracy, safety, and minimizing equipment and operational downtime.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the FUM in planning and executing daily farm operations, including irrigation, fertilization, pesticide application, and equipment use.
• Safely operate, monitor, and maintain center-pivot irrigation systems to ensure consistent water application and minimize downtime.
• Support irrigation scheduling using soil-moisture tools, crop water-use guidelines, and field conditions.
• Assist with the operation, troubleshooting, and repair of irrigation-related mechanical, electrical, and pressure-regulating systems.
• Apply fertilizers and agricultural chemicals in compliance with label instructions, regulatory requirements, and company procedures, including calibration, mixing, application, and documentation.
• Formulate and blend dry and liquid fertilizers as required.
• Operate farm machinery and perform minor repairs and routine maintenance as necessary.
• Maintain accurate maintenance, chemical application, and operational records.
• Monitor crop health, identify pest and disease issues, and recommend corrective actions in coordination with farm and agronomy leadership.
• Provide direct supervision of assigned employees, including work coordination, task assignment, training, and performance oversight.
• Enforce company policies, safety standards, and regulatory compliance, including proper use of PPE.
• Ensure all work is completed to established standards of safety, quality, and accuracy.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Agronomy or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant field experience.
• Private Pesticide Applicator License (must be maintained). Valid driver’s license.
• Demonstrated agricultural operations experience, including irrigation and chemical application.
• Ability to safely supervise and lead field employees in a production environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Preferred Prior supervisory or lead worker experience in agricultural operations.
• Experience with center pivot irrigation systems and soil moisture monitoring tools.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
