Job description

Job Summary:
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for managing a small driver team and/or non-traditional shifts (including nights and weekends). The role involves ensuring safe and timely freight movement, load assignment, and delivering top-tier customer service. The incumbent will be trained to comply with DOT regulations and will oversee driver compliance and company policies, collaborating with internal and external contacts to plan, route, monitor, and deliver freight efficiently.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Build and maintain positive relationships with drivers and outside carriers to facilitate carrier setup, reduce turnover, and enhance productivity.
  2. Fill in for absent staff and participate in projects aimed at optimizing fleet operations and profitability.
  3. Train and orient drivers and employees, including system training for internal and third-party (customer) systems.
  4. Maximize fleet efficiency, analyze performance metrics, and prepare customer-specific reports and financial analyses.
  5. Manage inventory, assets, and driver assignments to balance equipment in the market.
  6. Perform administrative duties such as payroll, budget management, driver counseling, accident reviews, documentation, and invoicing.
  7. Oversee yard operations, including equipment inspection, repairs, and coordinating maintenance.
  8. Collaborate with drivers, customers, and staff to resolve service, routing, mechanical, and pay issues as they arise.
  9. Promote a safety culture through daily messages, training, reviews, and policy enforcement to ensure DOT compliance.
  10. Assign loads, plan routes, monitor freight movement, and manage exceptions to meet customer and safety requirements.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualification: High School Diploma/GED with up to 4 years of related experience; currently enrolled in degree programs with up to 2 years of experience; or Bachelor’s degree with flexibility to work various shifts including nights and weekends. Willingness to travel as needed.

Preferred Qualification: Bachelor’s degree plus 1 year of experience or equivalent.

Skills & Abilities include conflict resolution, analytical decision-making, adaptability, relationship building, excellent communication, and problem-solving skills.

Compensation:

Starting pay factors include skills, education, experience, geography, and qualifications. The role may include bonuses and incentives based on performance and company profitability.

Education: GED or High School required; Bachelors in Business Administration or Communications preferred.

Work Experience: Entry-level management, transportation, or logistics experience.
