Qualifications

Manager Trainee

Sunrise Farms, located near Harris, Iowa

This position is essential in the operations of our 27 layer barns. Reporting to the Layer Manager, this role works closely with the Live Production General Manager, Veterinarian, Pullet Barn Manager, Pullet Barn Assistant Manager, and other onsite managers and supervisors to oversee hourly associates in the layer barns.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Be a great communicator.
2. Responsible for the overall care of layer birds.
3. Assist in feed ration selection.
4. Maintain accurate records for weekly production reports, UEP program, and SE plan.
5. Work with the Layer Manager to ensure barns are clean and pullets are delivered on time.
6. Coordinate with the Pullet Barn Manager on pullet delivery to the layer barns.
7. Monitor barn data to ensure proper water, air, feed, and manure management.
8. Assist Human Resources in employee selection, training, and onboarding.
9. Schedule employees.
10. Be available on call certain days and weekends to respond to alarms. (Must live within 25 minutes of the farm, e.g., Hartley, Harris, Lake Park, Sibley, Melvin, Ocheyedan)
11. Work a rotating weekend schedule.
12. Collect environmental swab samples, trachea swabs, and blood samples as needed.
13. Monitor employees to ensure animal welfare practices and task training are followed.
14. Lead by example and enforce strict bio-security guidelines.
15. Collaborate with QA Manager to meet SQF requirements.
16. Work with maintenance staff and have basic mechanical skills for repairs.
17. Communicate any issues impacting production to the Plant Manager.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in animal production or a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Business, or Agriculture Management preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus. Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office are required.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally.
