Qualifications

The Job/What You’ll Do

Manager, Trading will lead and develop a team of traders and portfolio implementation professionals responsible for trading and implementing investment strategies across AssetMark’s large-scale wealth management platform. This role oversees model-based trading, portfolio rebalancing, managed accounts, and unified managed account environments while ensuring trades are executed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with investment intent, client requirements, and operational controls. The role owns the trading control environment, including procedures, performance metrics, risk monitoring, and operational performance.

Job Description:

The Manager, Trading will lead and develop a team of traders and portfolio implementation professionals responsible for trading and implementing investment strategies across AssetMark’s large-scale wealth management platform. This role oversees model-based trading, portfolio rebalancing, managed accounts, and unified managed account environments while ensuring trades are executed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with investment intent, client requirements, and operational controls. The role owns the trading control environment, including procedures, performance metrics, risk monitoring, and operational performance.

This leader will help scale the trading function by improving workflows, strengthening controls, reducing cycle time and operational risk, and enhancing the systems and processes used to support advisors and their clients. The role will partner closely with Trading leaders, Investment Solutions, Product Engineering, Compliance, and other business teams to implement new capabilities and ensure the trading organization is prepared for changing volumes, products, and business needs.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on trading or portfolio implementation professional who enjoys improving how work gets done. This may be someone with prior formal management experience or a high-performing team lead who is ready to take the next step into people leadership.

This position is based in Charlotte, North Carolina and follows a hybrid work schedule. Candidates must be located in or willing to relocate to the Charlotte area.

Responsibilities

Trading and Portfolio Implementation

Lead the timely, accurate, and controlled implementation of investment strategies across client accounts, model portfolios, UMAs, and other managed account structures.

Oversee portfolio rebalancing, trade execution, allocations, cash management, trade error resolution, and related workflows.

Monitor trading volumes, capacity, service levels, and risk indicators to ensure the team can support business growth.

Ensure trading activity reflects investment intent, client requirements, applicable policies, and best execution standards.

Process Improvement and Scale

Evaluate trading workflows, identify inefficiencies and control gaps, and lead improvements that increase scalability, accuracy, and speed.

Ongoing review and improvement of standardized procedures, operating practices, metrics, and governance routines for a growing trading organization.

Partner with Product Engineering and business stakeholders to improve platforms, automate manual processes, and enhance data integrity.

Anticipate the operational impact of new products, investment strategies, platform changes, and volume increases.

Team Leadership and Cross-Functional Delivery

Lead, coach, and develop a team of traders and portfolio implementation professionals while building a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Establish clear expectations, provide regular feedback, support professional development, and help build a pipeline of future trading leaders.

Facilitate daily team routines focused on priorities, volume, capacity, risk items, and issue resolution.

Partner with Investment Solutions, Product Engineering, Compliance, and other stakeholders to ensure operational readiness for strategic initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Strong knowledge of portfolio trading and implementation workflows, including model-based trading, portfolio rebalancing, cash management, trade allocation, trade error resolution, best execution, and operational controls.

Experience supporting UMAs, SMAs, model portfolios, outsourced trading platforms, or high-volume multi-account trading environments.

Experience leading, coaching, mentoring, or serving as a team lead for trading, portfolio implementation, or investment operations professionals.

Demonstrated ability to improve processes, systems, controls, and operating models across trading, technology, and business teams.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.

Experience managing performance through metrics, KPIs, service levels, and risk monitoring.

Experience with Investcloud APL, Vestmark, Envestnet, Orion, Eclipse, or comparable platforms is preferred.

Proficiency with Excel and data visualization or reporting tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms is preferred.

Education And Experience

8+ years of experience in portfolio trading, investment operations, wealth management, asset management, managed accounts, or a related financial services environment, including meaningful experience with model-based trading, portfolio rebalancing, UMAs, SMAs, or other multi-account trading environments.

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Industry licensing or professional certifications such as Series 7, Series 24, Series 65, Series 3, Lean Six Sigma, or similar credentials are preferred.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is between $110,000 and $140,000. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits. This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay based on factors that may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location.
