Capital One is seeking an energetic, self‑motivated Manager to join the Third Party Risk Management (TPRM) Team within the Operational Risk Management second line of defense. The TPRM team is a dedicated group of professionals whose mission is to provide value‑add, independent stewardship of Capital One’s third party management practices, enabling the company to manage its third‑party risk.

Role Overview

The Risk Manager will lead the Risk Advice and Challenge function to the first line of defense. The TPRM team not only provides governance for third‑party risk at Capital One, but also delivers advice and effective challenge across all areas of Third Party Risk Management. This includes monitoring actions, issues and events for individual third parties and larger bodies of risk that span a business area or an entire division (e.g., RCSA and DORR). The Manager will also guide first‑line business areas and third‑party management on meeting Capital One’s program requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide risk consulting to multiple Business Areas, challenge and lead the implementation of third‑party risk management practices.
• Analyze data and influence stakeholders to proactively identify risks and trends, and provide oversight during risk assessment and reporting (e.g., RCSA and DORR) and during audits and exams.
• Support collaborative environments between risk teams and partner groups to create an integrated and seamless risk experience for the business (Compliance, IATPM, XDS, Business Continuity, etc.).
• Execute challenge activities to highlight high‑risk areas and ensure risk‑taking groups accurately represent their control environments.
• Document and communicate challenge results, and perform detailed validation data analysis including trending, problem identification, and remediation plan development.
• Consult on issue/event analysis and reporting functions to observe trends and provide insights on changes to the third‑party risk environment.
• Demonstrate strong problem‑solving, analytical and communication skills across various levels of the organization.
• Balance multiple priorities, drive business value, and support team objectives while managing risk‑management initiatives.
• Stay current on the changing regulatory environment and understand its impact on supporting businesses.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent military experience.
• At least 5 years of experience in Risk Management, Compliance, or Audit.
• At least 3 years of experience working with internal business clients.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Audit, or Business Management.
• 5+ years of project‑management experience leading cross‑functional programs in risk.
• Experience working in a Fintech environment.
• Industry certifications in Operational Risk Management.

Compensation

• Riverwoods, IL: $138,100 – $157,700
• McLean, VA: $151,900 – $173,400
• Richmond, VA: $138,100 – $157,700
• Other locations: salary range will correspond to the eligible pay range for the location.

In addition to the base salary, this role is eligible to earn performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long‑term incentives.
